When you see an enemy who will drop in one laser alpha but you are close to overheating, override first, shoot full duration until the guy is dead, then immediately shut down. Do not alpha the guy and automatically shutdown afterwards. As soon as the mech shuts down, the laser damage stops immediately, even though you can still see your laser firing its duration.

Had a stationary Cicada with orange torso, and shot 68 points of alpha from my one-hit-delete Ebon Jag while around 80%+ heat. Figured the guy would be dead no matter what. Mech automatically shut down, and the laser duration played out, but the Cicada survived, to my amazement.

Which sucks, cause I already had 6 kills and this guy was guaranteed 7th, if I had just hit override first. Posted Image

Oh, I did not know that but it sounds rather important, so thanks.

I just run with overheat on in most cases now. Too tired of shutting down for 15 or more seconds after a 1 heat overload. I only hit the overload button again, like you say if I am over 100 heat and in some kind of cover or at least twisted (power down to cool faster).

You can always shut down after an overheat, but shutting down mid fire due to an overheat is just straight up, no real chance death in most cases. F that.

Or you know... just don't fire all your weapons. When an enemy is a tickle from death, and you blow your load and miss... now you gotta wait. Better to fire half, and then if he isn't dead, fire the other half.

He was stationary. There was no way I could have missed, and all my shots hit his CT.

Oh wait, I missed the part where you said, "As soon as the mech shuts down, the laser damage stops immediately, even though you can still see your laser firing its duration."

I'll have to test that.

I'm pretty sure you still get all the heat though ;)
