There a reason why jets don't constantly recharge unless you touch the base ground?

Actually, they start to recharge as soon as you stop pushing the key to activate them, albeit slowly.

I've done some jumping around for the easter event, there are some very funny things in there (like getting way higher when you hit a ledge just right with jumpjets on), and you can "Feather Jet" with some small presses of the Space Bar (default setting) without expanding all your fuel at once.

Yep, feather jetting as a method for big fat mechs with a single jump jet to climb steep hills. Its a way of life on maps like alpine and canyon. It also helps them cover ground quicker by doing The Slide. (Still waiting on them to fix that these past 4 years...)

They don't. They only recharge when you are in contact with some sort of ground (and not using them).
Oh ? I must clean my glasses then, I could have sworn that the fuel bar started going up as soon as I stopped pushing on spacebar.
Thank you for correcting me.

jumpjets should definitely recharge while youre in the air

they could reduce the overall recharge rate to compensate for that

Jumpjets have been reduced to forever garbage due to the Highlander and the Victor back in the day that touched many people in bad places with pop-tarting. Notice how both of those said 'mechs are considered trash tier now and have been for a number of years. The malaise of the pop-tart meta will forever haunt these 'mechs and their jumpjets as Paul has PTSD flashbacks every time a buff is being considered for them.

Yup. This saddens me to no end. With the proliferation of high hard point clan mechs (some of whkch can ALSO jump ) like the Kodiak 3, Night Gyr, Hunchback IIc, etc; PGI's existentialist dread of the return of the "poptart meta" would be funny but for the fact that it ensures crappy mechs like the Vic stay forever crappy.
Hey PGI it may not be fully meta, but there are quite nasty poptarts already in the game. Keeping jj as garbage just keeps those existing poptarts as the only game in town and ensures that mechs with lower hard points can't compete.

I need to install MW2 Mercanries. You could fly across entire planets airborne with an Atlas with max jump jets by feathering them and letting them recharge while you have upward velocity.

Could you just install jumpjets on any old 'mech in MW2 Mercs? I can't remember.
