Well sure, but at that point land war was focused primarily on position. Once the development of mechanized units (tanks in particular) accelerated, war of movement quickly obsoleted war of position. Battlemechs are, theoretically, the ultimate evolution of armor, whose biggest advantage over traditional armor is mobility.
