I'd like to make a couple points to start with. First, these aren't Skills. How is Armor Hardening a skill? This is more like a Mech Upgrade Perk Tree. Second, the engine desynchronization seems like a dirty way to make the mobility tree more attractive, kind of like putting most of the speed tweak perks at the bottom of the tree. People with mechs like the dire wolf are going to be practically forced to spend a lot of points there just to keep from being a burden to their teammates. Dirty tactics.

And now, after playing some of my favorite mechs on the test server, I feel quite discouraged. When I first heard of the 'Skill Tree' (mech upgrade perk tree) I was excited and thought that it would be a great way to add depth to the game. I imagined that it would be a way to customize my mechs and make them a little better than they already are now in small increments. But, that doesn't seem to be the case because of how engine desynchronization has affected the handling of the mechs. The difference between how my mechs handle on the live server now and how they handled on the test server are like night and day. I even tested how much of a difference the mobility tree affected handling and found it to be negligible to the point of being practically irrelevant. If it weren't for speed tweak I doubt it will be worth the investment for many people, which is probably why its at the bottom of the tree (dirty tactics.) I feel like the Mech Upgrade Perk Tree (I'm calling it that now) ought to enhance game play, and its a strong step in the right direction, just please, please don't downgrade the mechs just to influence how people spend their perk points. That's manipulative. And don't do it in the name of balancing the game, because it isn't. There's no balancing when everything is diminished equally.

Finally, a few suggestions. First, no skill involved, ergo, not a skill tree; Mech Upgrade Perks and Perk Trees seem more appropriate. Second, either enhance the Mobility Tree to allow pilots to achieve the same degree of agility that they enjoy now or forgo the engine desynchronization (because otherwise I don't see how it would be worth it.) And finally, I'd like to see a higher perk point cap with a progressively higher cost per point beyond ninety-one to give the feeling that this change enhances mech performance.

I know all the Developers are trying to make the game more fun and I love and appreciate your work and commitment, Thank you.

They even nerfed Firestarter offensive quirks. What minimal amount of quirks it had from a bygone era when it was considered competitive. You know before they made them medium size. Since it was easier than shrinking all of those oversized assaults. It was all they had! Not even leg armor that other lights enjoy.

So I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. What is the big balancing mechanic that is going to make up for the loss of quirks on mechs that were already considered sub standard?

have you ever considered they just took away the quirks to baseline the skills?

I mean yeah, they might remove all the quirks but it's not official yet is it?

I severly doubt that they will completely turn over the plans for quirks they have shown (and that means that everyone looses almost all weapon quirks), so expect quirks to be removed.

They probably will bring them back once it becomes obvious that lots of weak mechs became completely useless, but knowing PGI that will take a long time. I am just not interested in playing in that enviroment. I don´t own many mechs that perform well without quirks.

So many people in this thread worry about the refund, if it screws them over, if they get too many XP or too many C-Bills...
But XP and C-Bills are a thing that happens as a consequence of playing the game. And if this patch makes the game no fun to play I can´t give a rats arse how much currency I get.

Well we haven't heard any indication of whether there will be a follow up PTS or just straight to live. Granted changes on the PTS are not set in stone. But so far we've had no indication that they're dropping the quirk changes. How hard would it be to reassure IS players that their substandard mechs will not be getting further substandard?

The Patch is due out on May 16th they have stated they are releasing the tree in the May patch, there is no time for a new PTS if they still are planning for a May release.

Be smart request refunds before the May release, and only play this game with your remaining banked prem time.

I played before the IS had quirks. I'll wait to see just how grievous the quirk nerfs are before I start getting drastic. I'm also curious what our new balance guy has in mind for post Skill Tree.

Shouldn't the 50-ton I.S. & Clan Hunchbacks have the same Base Agility? The discrepancy seems strange when say comparing the Atlas to the Kodiak.

I see that you have played 74 quick games last season, the number is much less than mine, but I believe is quite sufficient to have opinion about current game status (there were quite a few changes since few months I play MWO). On the other hand there are members with 20 games in 10 season and more than a hundred posts in the same period. Go figure.
To see number of games go to your profile and choose leaderboards, in the bottom part of the screen you can make search by members name.

If to speak about current version of skill tree. I did very short look (the changes are huge) at it but could not miss that It is very friendly to PPCs and not so really to laser boats ( after all velocity is useless for lasers). Another note is quick access to the laser duration. This quirk is quite relevant for ER clan lasers, together with heat reduction (which is critical for ErPPcs as well) clan mechs get very easily nice boost unavailable in current skill tree.
Another note: radar derp is very very expensive, so I don't think many would bother with making 100%, on the other hand lrms get significant boosts. While I suppose asm will become much more common it is now (see payments for protecting friendlies with ACM) the coming games will see more of lrms.

Except the problem you have is I never said anything about my activity and if you bothered to read my recent posts you'd know I am almost entirely inactive now until the next changes so... if you're only just exceeding me then no you're not really super qualified. You do whine a lot though and your post excelled at that.

I did however extensively do every PTS on this subject and carefully read everything... it wasn't rocket science or overly complicated. I also didn't random rage about it on the forums and simply constructively fed back what did and didn't seem (imo) to work.

The lack of response from PGI on our issues is finally making me realise this game will get More players shortly after each update, but the player exodus will increase exponentially with each patch and occur more rapidly as more and more of us get more and more pissed with them failing to explain even minor things. Showing they really dont understand the industry they are in or give a rats about their customers/playerbase

Like:
1..will they give us access to a PTS with a correct DEC 3rd date refund ledger b4 it goes live?
2..Does the modules refund Know the date and individual id of each module purchased?
3... If it does not and you sell a 'seismic' purchased before dec 3rd to get cbills instead of gsp when you also purchased a 'seismic' after Dec 3rd will you actually still get the GSP refund and miss out on a full seismic CBIll value refund? ??

There isnt even a 'search thread for pgi comments' button.... is there??? Christ most others in the industry have had that on their forums for 10 years, how long would that take a half decent coder to do??? Seriously...

While i doubt we'll get a pts in the next 3 weeks (before the skill tree drops) this raises an interesting question and, if one knew whether they purchase enough modules prior to dec 3rd such that they stood to profit more frome selling all modules at 1/2 price and get no gsp or wait for the refund...

Is it possible to turn the PTS on for a few days before the Skill Tree patch goes live?

I'd like to take a look at my Ledger again...or will the Ledger be available to look at from the www.mwomercs.com website when you log into your profile before the patch goes live?

all the time and C-Bills spent on buying and mastering mechs you didn't want to begin with.....newer pilots will never understand that struggle.
it would be nice to sell those crap chassis and get all that XP and C-bills back and put it towards something we actually want.
also, how is this going to affect future mech bundle sales.
if i'm reading this correctly, there will be no reason to buy multiple variants of a chassis to max it out. which makes the ultimate MAD CAT MK2 pack i just bought somewhat devalued....

+1 to turning back on the PTS, with the changes mentioned when it was shut down last Friday. Been over a full work week.

With 5 days to patch date and ZERO mention of the development of skill tree according to feedback from the PTS, my oracle crystal sphere predicts another delay on the Skill Tree (Which is not a Tree, and not made of Skills, as pointed out above).

Really, I base this on the statement from the roadmap that we would have all the details in the end of April. Seems like they didn't make that milestone.

*EDIT*
Yeah And when we're at it. I completely agree on the lack of tools for finding developer information. You'd have to use 1/3 of your waking time to find all the relevant posts they make.

Damn I wish i had put money on my announcement during mech con that it wouldnt be before June IF YOUR correct. However I do expect it to be in this patch and they are just keeping quiet to avoid the pitchforks, not realising that their silence is going to make the pitchforks 10 times worse.

No I dont think so, its just that PGI is in a learning process:

If they announce ANYTHING with more than 2 sentences people will immediately start to complain and insult them... they will finally give us the skill tree on tuesday without giving us too much time and information before...

I like it!

Yes in the bath modules, Сbils.
With do a normal thoughtful and flexible tree pumping. And not the version of the tree that was in the last test.
-------------
If there is no interesting variable tree pumping, then players will simply stop playing your game.
