2 part question/comment....

Maybe in the wrong forum with this, but idk. I'm relatively new (about 100 hours played) and the idea of having to purchase multiple variants and level them all to unlock the next tier etc etc etc has seemed rather ridiculous to me. Will this new skill tree system remove that roadblock? I don't want to fill my limited number of 'mech bays and waste c-bills if it won't be necessary relatively soon.

As far as skill trees go, what I'm seeing here definitely looks unnecessarily complicated and the choices appear rather forced (though that's common practice with many mmo's), however the idea of having skill trees and more options for customizing and upgrading our mechs is great! It feels like there will be more incentive to put time into this game to make my mechs more varied rather than just buying and leveling mech variants I don't want for the sake of another tier of upgrades.

Thumbs up for skill trees and this system so far!

In answer to the first part... yes they are getting rid of the need to purchase three mech variants to unlock the skills. One mech will be all you need.

As to the second part, there's a better option then what PGI has shown us so far..

Hello warriors;

I tried that new Skill tree 10 minutes ago...and this is just so wrong...wrong, wrong, wrong...

- I just use the Historical Skill points to tweak my Bounty Hunter and just pass about 2 hours of my time doing it.
- The interface is just to complicated to convert the existing XP we have, too much information.
- About the thing of having more than 1 variantis not a issue. In the end, just to tweak a single variant we could pass the same time than playing 3 variant.
- In old Skill tree, when we had the Speed Tweak, we got 100%, now we have to choose. Just to back the Speed tweak at 100% we have to had some other nodes that we didn't really need. So what about the Historical Skill Points? Another lie.
- This game was made for install and play. I don't believe that people want to calculate every little detail to make the mech better. The idea of better costumization is interresting but is just to complicated to to navigate trough the interface.
Just don't have the time to customize a single mech...I have nearly 142 mechs...
- I have talk with friends in the game and almost everybody believe of abandon the game.

I'm sorry by saying that but PGI is just wasting our time with ideas that will not work, just to hide the lack of inivation and promising ideas...
Sorry again but Mech Warriors: Living Legends, a non-comercial game have more chances of striving, even with the stock builds, than Mech Warrior Online...

And, yes Ruar, the Penclick Productions Skill Tree is a more simple way of customization. But PGI don't want to listen. They just did a little modification here and there but their Skill is almost the same they showed us some months ago, so, they just didn't care about the community. They didn't want to build a new Skill Tree from the beginning. Once more, lack of work, lack of ideas and inovation.

That actually sounds like a pretty good time tbh.

Most of the people I've talked with are pretty excited for the change (any change really). The same old bittervets that's been salty about MWO since closed beta are unsurprisingly still salty. The game needs this if it's going to survive, especially with new tech coming.

I'm guessing the PGI has LOTS of man hours invested in this and they don't want to flush all those wasted man hours down the toilet.

Most aren't saying flush it down the toilet. A few don't want the skill tree, but most do.

What most are saying is the tree needs to be linear instead of convoluted. Something that can easily be remedied if they would only admit they've made the wrong choice and need to change. They've shown they can change their mind on some things, it's time they change their mind about the current tree layout.
