With the dawn of the new tech, can Atlas assume mid-range DPS role without being frowned upon?

UAC10 + 2x MRM30 sounds nice, couple that with an LFE.

we will need to see how mrm will work. if it acts like a missile based LBX; then surely not much.

It'll be probably direct fire C-LRM, but tighter spread and fired much faster.

so a burst machine gun made of missiles? that sounds funny, need to definately slap as many in a mech as possible.

Does this look like a decent build to you?

AS7-S (new tech stand-in)

LB-X for UAC stand-in, LRM15 are equivalent to MRM20 in crits and weight, 8.25 tons left free to account for the LFE over the XLFE, Medium Lasers as ERML stand-ins, LRM ammo as, well, MRM ammo. Current free crits are 3, you gain 2 from the LFE, but lose 1 from the UAC10, so 4 free critical slot. Not enough for light ferro, and that thing only has 4 DHS, as crits are limited. You're better off moving a single DHS into the UAC ST for the crit padding on the UAC 10. You won't get LFA to fit.

You are going to be light on ammo for both weapon systems. I dunno. Seems like a waste of a terrifying brawler, especially with AC20 and LFE mating beautifully. MRMs might be nice to go for the MRM10 and take all 4 launchers, for faster refire, though. Dunno if ERML are worth the heat, that already runs hot from the 4x (A)SRM6.

Oh, the magical accomplishment of pulling four LRM20 launchers into the four missile slots, stackign armor and ammo with the rest of the tonnage. I wonder how this build looks like. What secret intricacies it might be hiding. What cunning ruses and considered choices were made to turn a mediocre weapons platform such as the lowly Supernova into a shining beacon of shock and awe, finally becoming a true YAWAL*.

The reason that Fatlass is so bad for long range is its low hardpoints.

For medium/long range builds, use a King Crab instead, preferably the 000B. The torso mounts are awesome.

I would be *all over that*. Seriously, if I could get missile machine guns, I'd crazy glue them to every single mech I own and

Seriously, though, a midrange atlas isn't a bad thing; it's just the LRM's are kinda bad at the best of times and it's tough to make strong AS7 builds without a good midrange missile option. You're basically limited to a couple larger lasers and a ballistic, so it's not really a threatening loadout for a 100t mech.

If MRM's aren't bad, that changes things a lot.

I'm not sure anyone can pass judgement on this idea without more knowledge about how the new weapons systems, specifically MRMs in this case, are going to work. I will say though that the LFE is going to obsolete STD engines in most (not all) of my IS 'mechs.
