This is a two-part idea, and I have no clue if this is true to lore or not, either partially or fully. (Please clarify if you know)

PGI, please provide us with features to be able to hire out and/or share our mechs.

1. Public Hire
The mechs would be selectable from the main home screen. It would work exatcly the same as Trial mechs, except the mechs are placed for hire by players.

The player hiring the mech (the client) puts down a deposit of C-Bills and/or MC to cover the cost of consumed modules (UAVs, Cool Shots, etc). If these are not used, the client gets back their deposit. Note that this does not transfer funds between players, you're just paying for what you use.

The player hiring out the mech (the provider) gets a cut of the client's C-Bill winnings. This prevents any money transfer between players and enables players to hire mechs without having to gamble their currency. Note that other currency such as EXP are not affected, this is only related to C-Bills.

The provider determines the percentage they take from the winnings, and this is clearly displayed in the hire list (and even sortable by percentage in the same fashion that you would sort alphabetically or by value). Providers would then endeavour to provide effective and good-looking mechs, complete with cool cockpit items and powerful camo/colour combinations.

Early/Mid providers will compete by making decent mechs at a low percentage, while high-end players will hire out their ultra-optimized mechs at high percentages. I can even see 'celebrity players' hiring out their mechs at 100%, meaning you just get the pleasure of using a 'perfect' mech, further encouraging players to get into the mechlab and enhance their mechs to emulate the power.

This would clearly benefit the player community, adding new purpose and dimension to mech customization - This would make the community truly flourish.

It would also greatly benefit PGI since it would encourage players to purchase more camos, colours, warhorns, cockpit items, etc. It would also alleviate or prevent entirely the complaints for "more trial mechs".
Everybody wins.

2. Unit Share
As an offshoot of the above Public Hire idea, it would be great for us to be able to share our mechs among Unit members. Again, this would be selectable in the same way we select Trial Mechs. Sharing mechs within the unit would only incur the consumables deposit (IE: The percentage fee is always 0% among unit members).

This would benefit the game since it would add more purpose to joining a unit. A unit's character would be given more depth by the mechs it typically runs and has available to its members.

Also this would be a fantastic way to encourage newer players to join units, and make it much easier for experienced players to help newer players get into the community.
PGI, think about that... More player integration = More players = More revenue $$$.
Again, Everybody wins.

You mean renting out our mechs and allowing our unit mates to use them? Sounds good!

You could use faction loyalty points as payment when sharing within a unit.

Excellent Idea! I have been wanting something like this so I could have a way to test non trial mechs before purchase, and I know some who have wanted to try my mechs. Plus, a way to make money while not playing, great! For someone like me who has 20ish mechs, this would be a great way to fix and optimize my other mechs, As well as get more.

This would help our new players in the unit. I have many mechs they could choose from. Maybe set it up like a unit mech hanger for unit members to select and try mechs that another member has. Just an idea.

As a unit feature, this makes sense. As an extension / alternative to this (and further incentive for Faction War), as a unit (and its members) gains reputation, it unlocks "Unit mechbays" that the unit can fill with mechs that are available to all members. The Unit treasury would receive a percentage of the earnings from matches of these mechs. The ability to buy / sell / modify these mechs would be an ability of people at a certain rank within the unit and, to all other members, these would be similar to trial mechs (in that they can't be modified). XP earned from matches in these mechs would be treated the same as if they were trial mechs.

Within the mechbay, an additional slider position would be needed that showed 'Unit mechs' in the same way that you can filter on 'Trial mechs' as well.
