Has PGI ever done a "sale" after a mech has been released to Include the preorder items?

Such as today you can get the Bushwacker for cbills, super cool. PGI could for a day or two sale the Bushwacker with the preorder items to drive actual money sales for them. Give people who missed or skipped the pre-order one more chance to get the extra goodies.

I know what some of you will say because God knows you have to be literal. "Those are PRE-order items, and there is NO WAY a company could ever sell something that is a pre-order later. NEVER BEEN DONE EVER. The world would open up and lava would KILL ALL OF US if they did that, it's not just a simple website, and somehow this sale would nullify Me preordering the mech 6-12 months ago. meow meow meow".

But really, I missed a lot of pre-orders taking a 2-year break from the game. Thoughts? :)

No they haven't, that's the point of them enticing you into pre-ordering.

At the risk of being blunt ...

You Snooze, You Lose.

The whole point of preorder bonuses is to get people to spend money early.

Allowing those to be sold after the preorder window defeats the point.

For example, I've had Ultima Online accounts active on and off since 1997. But since I haven't paid for every month of every year, I don't get the veteran rewards for the years I missed.

Do I regret that ? Yes.
Can I do something about it ? Yes, with my wallet by going on third party websites that sell those virtual goods for real money.

Can you do the same in MWO ?

!!! YES !!!

The preorder only items are available for MCs ... in other words, your wallet.

With the exception of the Founder's Packs and Phoenix Packs (and Saber reinforcements), none of the packs have ever gone "off the market" so you can still buy all the packs pretty much. Which are discounted compared to purchasing them individually.

As far as the pre-order bonuses.... not seeing that happen.

I wish PGI offered sales on a-la-carte bundles. Those bundles are old enough to be discounted.

PGI wanted to do a flashback sale on these, but the seething "MUH EXCLUSIVTY" crowd ruined that pretty quickly.

Could they re-open the Mech Pack with pre-order bonuses at any time they wanted to?

Yes, they could.

Would it piss a lot of people off who feel special-snowflake because they pre-ordered the mech and you didn't but you still get the same swag they did?

Yes, it would.

There is also the possibility that once you start offering flashbacks, you cannibalize your own pre-orders because anyone who doesn't 'gotta have it now' will just think "meh I will pick it up later after I see the reviews".

I don't think PGI's income stream is solid enough to take too many risks with.

PGI should really remove pre-order rewards from the store page for release 'mechs, perhaps have it load for anyone who qualified so they can check what they got.
It's never nice to see

They need to revisit these invasion mechs and sell each one (the special (I) variant with 30% CBill boost) plus 2 original variants for $20 per pack. Throw in a week of active premium time, or a few war horns, or the invasion colors and a camo or something. For very little effort and cost (unless Clan Waves 1, 2 and 3 are currently raking in cash), they may sell a few just so people can get the invasion variant with bonus.

Hitting the nail on the head here.

I would imagine you'd see more "Pre-order : twist panties : refund" if you know you can just re-order later for the same swag.

Would it help you understand how the special snowflakes felt about it instead of belittling other people? It would.

When PGI was offering to reopen the Phoenix Packs, it would have grented the second wave of owners the exact same preorder status as original purchasers, meaning the second wave of buyers would immediately become subject to the current batch of Loyalty Rewards that were supposed to go toward people who supported the game earlier. PGI was literally letting people buy now to get the rewards meant for people who bought it and supported the game a year ago.

That's just insulting. That says "The Loyalty Program is not a loyalty program at all, it's just another sale and we're lying to you guys who actually did preorder the stuff. Yeah, just ignore the word "Loyalty" in the program name, mkay?"

It was a poor move on PGI's part to maks it elegible for Loyalty Rewards, and THAT is why the community rejected it.

But, hey, you saw an opportunity to insult people, and you nailed it. Good on you.

No, I'm pretty sure at the time that people just wanted to keep their special snowflake edition mechs exclusive to themselves.... the prevailing argument was "I put money into this game in its most awful state (the poptarts for breakfast, lunch and dinner phase), so I deserve the unique geometry as a badge of my unqualified support".

The only convincing argument I've seen for why they shouldn't be made available to everyone is that PGI said in their FAQ at the time that these would not be available for sale again. But then PGI goes back on their word all the time (and more often than not, the game benefits when they do).

The old "That was our position at the time"TM argument.
