This is an example of something i see every now and then .

i wish i had a vid of the one that really made me go hmm. as that was a KGC getting hammered by lrms pulse lasers and other incoming yet stopped taking damage.

this here is a catapult with its rear exposed. takes 30 damage to rear ct another 30 damage across the rear plus incoming missile fire and possible more pulse lasers. yet it walks off under the platform.

interesting thing is the mech stops and seems to stop taking damage.

this is not the first time i have seen this in game .

whats there to see? you ppc's that hit all did damage, one ppc msised left form the mech, and the

your pulselasersalvo before the health% show even missed at the left side as well. This seems fishy, because the crosshair is on the the mech. But you need to be more carefull around the hip level the SNV is very thin, if you look at the raneg indicator you slip off very often, on the server this could easily make the lasershots miss the SNV as the instant convergence + delay can screw this up, thats why very steady aim is needed for at least some 0.x seconds.

Honestly, even in CS such shaky aim could screw you up and miss the hitboxes which have a tiny delay there too.

actually thats not my pulse laser salvo.

just thought this was a good example of mechs not taking damage at times . as this seems what happens here .

i know any time i take 60+ damge to my rear im usually no longer standing.

That reticle is wandering a lot, yes. The firer could very well be spreading damage across multiple rear torsos and legs, even if hit reg is working as expected.

well, if thats not your pulselaser then i see nothign wrong, ppc's all hit, some hit fishyly at the hips, they could just hit sidetorsi, and the NVA is a 90t mech so 60 HP in the bakc is survivable. The end of the vid even shows that you hit some ST's as armor on the one disappears. So you were just spreading your damage across the Torsi. I would guess only 2 actually hit the rear CT or 3 at best.

One of the biggest reasons why I don't run (ER)PPC's.

PPC's hitreg is just too unreliable.

I get hit alot of the times from PPC's at 400m that do no damage to me or to them when I use it.

a fine example of why i lock my arms most of the time. there is no question about diverging shots. no wobblemouse bs screwing up your aim. they simply go where the crosshair resides. sure let em swing when your target is fast, or if you have to twist, or you have to shoot something out of your fov, i used it to peg one fuel cell carrying arctic cheetah in the last event. but 90% of the time i keep em locked, its just a button tap away if you need it.

The C4 has an internal structure of:

ST: 30 + 6 = 36
CT: 42 + 8 = 50

Stock armor:
ST: 12
CT: 14

Total health:

ST: 48
CT: 64

In this video I see you doing the following

30 CT
10 LT
Miss
10 LT (CT?)
Miss
10 RT
10 RT

The pulse lasers look like they could be mediums (hard to tell in slowmo night vision since they aren't yours). They look like they've fallen off so they would be doing little to no damage and they appear to wobble around quite a bit. A few missiles come in, but it's hard to tell the specific angle, but they are going to spread damage and hit legs.

Give the damagen you do and stock armor, I would expect the C4 to have a remaining health of LT/CT/RT

Armor 0/0/0
Structure 28/34/28

That looks pretty close to what I see in the video. Through in a couple dozen spread damage and you still don't have a problem.

Even without rear armor the health would be:

Structure 16/20/16

PPCs do sometimes seem to poorly reg damage, but in this case it seems like it's explainable simply by stock armor values and spread damage.

Good maths

I sometimes wonder after watching my replays if i should really just go stock armor.
as i see several cases where it seems more beneficial than running front loaded.

Looks to me like the pulse lasers salvo and one PPC shot miss completely and one of the PPCs that hits strikes the destroyed arm stump (and as such would transfer reduced damage to the side torso and depending on the angle maybe transfer to the front side torso armor) this leaves only two direct hits that I could see one in the left torso rear and one center torso rear.

Soaking two 10 point hits to the rear is survivable for even the lightest mechs A Locust has 10 base internal structure on a side torso and assuming it also has armor in the rear a PPC strike can be absorbed without destroying the Locust.

While front loading armor is the "meta" way to go, it assumes that the player is good at protecting their back. It's a double edged sword. Ideally, you should be spending your time facing the enemy, thus making front armor useful. If you are dying a lot to back shots it's not the worst idea to add some armor (and to work on your situational awareness). I've one/two shot my share of mechs who had "meta" armor loadouts, but lacked the proper situational awareness to make it work. I've also put a full 36 damage SPL alpha into the back a few mechs and been shocked at the amount of back armor they were running.

In some ways comp/well known players are easier to kill as a light because I know that they are probably only running a few points of rear armor at most. The hard part is getting behind them to line up the shot.

Pretty sure I saw somewhere that they started manufacturing Catapult CTs out of a solid block of admantium, just saying.
Something to do with a scathing Consumer's Report on it sometime back on it's size and hitboxes.

Actually pretty sure it's thanks to the Cat and Awesome for getting the whole resize fiasco started in the first place. But ya Catapults are tougher than glue for some reason.
