I did a few Scouting today and the amount of trial Raven-3Ls, and Wolfhound-1s was too damn high! The Raven-3L has 2xERLLs, FFS! I was baffled at these pugs' stupidity, and then thought to see the available trial Lights and Mediums for both sides. What I saw made me shake my head.

IS trial Lights: Raven-3L (2xERLLs), Wolfhound-1 (1LPL+4xMLs).

Clan trial Lights: Adder (5xCERML), Jenner-IIC (4xCSRM4s + 2xCSRM2s)

IS trial Mediums: Kintaro-18 (5xLRM5s), Phoenix Hawk-2 (6xMLs).

Clan trial Mediums: HBK-IIC (2xCUAC10s + 2xCERMLs), Nova (6xCERMLs)

What in tarnation! Aside from the fact that most of these mechs are not suitable for Scouting fights, IS options are clearly suffering compared to Clan ones. LRM Kintaro, and ERLL Raven? Really? While Tuk event is going on? Cmon... think of those poor pugs. Gonna tweet Russ about this.

My last three matches had champion Ravens and Wolfhounds. Hence the thread.

Ideally, Lights are supposed to run brawlish weapons. The Wolfhound is likely to suffer from overheating (it's not practical unless you're well versed in heat management) and the Phoenix Hawk kinda is the closest thing to achieving this.... but that's a lot of tonnage spent (in a dropdeck). I mean, the Ice Fridge (Ferret) is better for its tonnage than a Phoenix Hawk.

Ouch - that's harsh. I twice had a mist lynx... and once a trial nova...

I had a Kintaro letting us know he had lrm if we had the locks. So i let him know my erll raven would get those lock. Then i saw him shoot lrm and realised we weren't joking. After we're all dead but him... i wasnt exactly nice. I realised at the scoreboard he was in a (C) and probably couldnt even afford to play scouting with the mech he has... Also saw had a friend with him and he too was in a (C)... This suck so bad when a game cant have someone play it decently but let him in and then everyone gets fked.

You cant just let everyone in without any requirement or failsafe(good relevant trial deck). CW and Scouting need their separate TRIAL DECK that cant be used in quickplay. At least newbies would learn the game the right way because there is a right way when you are not in quickplay.

The situation new players experience with FP causes them to think MWO is garbage and they never come back to the game again.

Trial mechs really don't belong in FP. They're literally cannon fodder for the more competitive mechs and I doubt this will change since PGI will never be able to keep trial mechs updated to their most competitive builds. I think "new players + trial mechs + FP" is probably the #1 reason MWO is burning through new players right now. It is not fun getting repeatedly destroyed over and over by coordinated teams when new players are already at an enormous disadvantage with crappy trial mechs. It gives a very bad first impression and even further beyond the first impression.

This is probably something PGI and many others do not want to hear. Even though this can cause population issues for FP, it might be necessary to limit access to FP until a player at least have a full self built dropdeck. It will give new players something to work towards and will likely improve the quality of their experience with MWO.

Aye. I just wish PGI had at least included the trial Griffin-1S for the duration of the event.

Someone brought a 2xLRM+Small Laser Hunchback to Scout mode. My brother and I lamented our great misfortune.

PGI, please do away with the limited trial system and put all the trial mechs on availability.

My suggestion is to make Champion Mechs as Trial Mechs, not just for events, but as a permanent feature.

That is already the case, and it has been a miserable experience because most of these "Champion" builds are built by Meta players for Meta players. Most of them are built to rely off of techniques like torso-twisting and bunny-hopping, techniques that are beyond most newbs.

The last round got tweaked by PGI, not sure if is always true, where the armour values were changed for worse too low at front humorous at rear

The Mech's armament also matters. Deadside builds, a Brawler Griffin with an XL engine, a UAC-based Kodiak. None of these are particularly newb friendly.
