Hi guys.

Basically I stopped playing for over six months (ironically because of how demoralising FW-based events had become as an IS player).

I came back to see if anything had changed (fingers crossed the time jump/civil war patch evens things up a bit), and I've seen bits of conversations referring to a revamp of the skill tree, and something about module reimbursements?

I have a few range/fire rate weapon modules, and several radar depriv., etc. Does this skill tree revamp mean I won't be able to use them anymore?

Seriously, what's the deal with it?

I'd give you a summary, but then I would just go off on another rant.

My (short and subjective) summary as a MADIIC pilot is:

The MADIIC is currently OP, maybe THE best Mech (maybe behind the KDK-3).
And it's getting massively buffed by the skilltree, while freebirthers got nerfed Posted Image.

(Objectively, it's bad. Personally, I'm looking forward to it Posted Image)

people who've been away with only a few modules and without good amounts of mech xp on their favorites plus somewhere around 1mill in gxp are probably not going to be motivated enough to return.

hell i have all that plus a crap tonn of moduals and im not sure i can be bothered rebuilding either.

How is it getting massively buffed by the skilltree? Just curious...

<edit>
Holy crap I just saw the skill trees. They look like they've been created by someone with ADHD whose been fed nothing but Redbull for a week.

Seriously getting a headache actually trying to follow a desirable build.

The MADIIC is currently pretty good despite having no quirks at all. Due to build flexibility, hardpoint number and location and hitboxes.
The skill tree will be a kind of dynamic quirking system and it will apply to the MADIIC just the same as to other Mechs.

The current skills and modules will be removed, but they will be removed for all other Mechs as well.
The skill tree is meant to replace current skills, modules AND some quirks.
Since the MADIIC currently has no quirks but gets the same skill tree as every other Mech, it will be effectively buffed.

Note that this is no IS-whining. This comes from someone piloting and liking the thing.
But it's simply true. When I tested my MADIIC on PTS, it was more agile, better armored, with more DPS, range and less heat.

This one single case in itself shows, that the skill tree has to be changed.
Either the skill tree has to be individual for every Mech or quirks have to be restored, maybe even more quirks and even negative quirks.

It's very interesting. Was looking through the pdf'd quirk nerfs for IS and Clan...

So, IS mechs, that are quirk-heavy because they need them to vaguely compete with Clan ones, have been nerfed to hell as the new skill tree will boost them back to their previous levels, but virtually all the Clan mechs are unchanged as they didn't have quirks to alter.

Now it looks a bit more like a car crash waiting to happen.

Seriously, all they had to do was drop the Clan tonnage allowance slightly for the larger scale FW battles. Done. Seems a bit "sledgehammer-walnut".

You can tinker with a model of the skill tree here: https://kitlaan.gitlab.io/mwoskill/

Some of the Skill Tree threads have useful information in them, quite a few are mostly opinion/rants that don't help you much.

These three give you at least a starting point:

https://mwomercs.com...ter-comparison/

https://mwomercs.com...pinions-please/

Hope that helps!

Big help! Thank you everyone.

Generally speaking I'm game for any attempt at rebalance, a bump to keep the game fresh or an attempt to appeal more to the casual player (afterall, that's how you keep the game alive, and tbh I'm happy with anyone keeping such a legendary title alive).

In fairness to PGI, they have said it's going to be very much rebalanced over several months (not just a patch-and-run job). I just hope they listen to feedback from the loyalist players as much as they listen to the mercs.
