Problem with steam charts is that not everyone uses steam.

Players that use the standard launcher dont show up with the steam numbers.

Anyone concerned with frames rates or performance is using the native launcher.

It wouldn't make much of a difference if any, but shutting down every single app is standard procedure for getting the most out of a system and connection.
