Ahoy MWO universe

I have a ..... different question.....

I started playing MWO shortly after they moved to steam, but have to endure crappy ISP's where I live in South Africa.

After trying and reading everything I could find online concerning how to better my ping and lag issues(WTFast, VPN's, DNS setting, Wifi-Cabel stuff ect), I found a dark corner of the universe that had some interesting advice..... "move from Steam to the Stand-alone".

Not having steam run in the background makes sense. But how do I migrate my account from Steam to the stand-alone not wanting to lose all my progress and mechs? Basically the reverse of what 99% of players have done......?

Any thoughts?

Don't you have a login screen where you have to enter your e-mail and password when you launch MWO through Steam? If you do, those login credentials can be used when playing standalone MWO client. Actually, if you have Steam verision you should be able to launch the game without Steam by opening MWOClient.exe located somewhere in game folder which in turn is located in your steamcommon folder.

The only real reason to not run it via Steam is if you have a low end computer and trying to reduce the number of programs running at one time. There are two ways of going about it. Option 1 - Start an installation into the MWO folder to create the necessary files to launch the Standalone with its patching. Option 2 - Keep using Steam to download/install files but then close down Steam and run a shortcut that normally bypasses the Standalone launchpad and allows you to either start up MWO in 64bit, or even in 32bit.

********************
To bypass the launchpad aka MechwarriorOnline.exe

*********************

(drive letter) F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\Mechwarrioronline.exe is the launchpad one it is installed.

Steam version does not have the launchpad, so click on the Download Now and start the installation to the Mechwarrior Online folder, then kill the patching after a minute or so. Now drill into the Steam folder to the above location and locate MechwarriorOnline.exe, right click and send to Desktop as Shortcut (I do not remember when the desktop shortcut is generated, it may already be there.
  • Also, pls note your system specs.
  • Control Panel - Power Options - Set to High Performance
  • Can of compressed air and make sure all heatsinks are clear of dust buildup.
