Could a Spider 5D make it up the HPG Manifold wall with 8 Class V jumpjets? I'm just wondering to try and get an idea of how high it can jump before I buy it. I have created a PPC build on the 5D, but I'm curious if I should move the build to the 5V.

You dont need jumpjets, both sides of HPG spawn have an area that you can use to get almost to the top and just use 1-2 jump jets clear the last little bit

@ op dont waste your money. any light mech with 4 jjs can move all along the wall (in most cases 2 or 3 is enough) There are spots to get up onto the wall with no JJs if you want to take your direwolf up there.

Yeah, 8 is overkill. I had tested it out with some mechs, and I tried other spots on other maps. I guess they added clip brushes on really high points, like the HPG on HPG Manifold. But honestly, a dire wolf up on the wall is a waste of armor.

Can confirm. Although, to be fair, I was still running JJ on my Direwolf at the time...

The point is, there are *many* better 'Mechs to get on that wall with. Don't do it with a SDR-5D. As much as I love my 5D, I can't actually recommend it at this point to anyone.

If you want that exact performance, you'd be better off with the ECM Assassin anyway. There's literally nothing the 5D can do that it can't do better, faster, or with more armor. It even has better jump characteristics, by which I mean it will jump higher with the same number of jump jets. Figure that one out.

On one side, you can actually just walk up onto the wall. This is especially difficult as an assault mech, but I have done it with a Dire Wolf in this video.

Note: At the time of the video, the Dire wolf had a turn animation glitch. The method for climbing the wall is basically once you come to a full stop, turn to lessen how steep the angle is. Once momentum is built, turn toward the angle you want to climb, repeat as necessary until to the top.

It is also done in many other videos ranging from 2013 (when it first became necessary) to 2017. (Don't have one this year, YET, where I'm doing it but I did it just 20 minutes ago with an Orion).

Hard brake, by consequence of increasing your deceleration rate will make it harder to use this trick. Kinetic boost, however, will make it easier. Hill Climb nodes will also make this task easier (and in some cases with enough of them, negate the need to even use this trick at all).

In anticipation that someone will believe less than stellar stats automatically make a person wrong, I point out this thread. :)
