I assume based on your comment about IS Nerfs should go away and make the whole game around skill with no buffs or quirks to IS mechs to be a completely dumb and ignorant comment. Quirks and buffs bring some level of parity to IS mechs compared to clan. Notice I said "some" ... Clan Mechs due largely to the advantages of Clan XL engines will always be better for that reason not even considering the major range advantages of C-SPL / C-ERML or the strong play of Clan Gauss +ERPPC.

Sucks that you play daily yet still don't understand the game. I feel bad for you.

Sucks that you have trouble comprehending that Clan Mechs are supposed to be better and (unless it is a IIC) they are stuck with whatever engine they came with and are now nerfed because of the engine desync. Anyway, you may have also failed to notice that I said that I am no longer playing Clan Mechs and I even fight Clan Mechs with my XL Griffin and don't whine when my torso gets blown off and my Mech gets destroyed, because that is how it is supposed to work.

So is it this guy Alexander Garden that I have to thank for taking a game I loved, played daily, and spent a lot of money on and turning into a worthless piece of junk I have no more interest in playing? Yeah, thanks dude, way to ruin my favorite game. Why couldn't you guys have left us who weren't interested in a blueprint that returned our mechs as much as possible to the way they were before this abomination before God went live. It's your game, do as you please, but know that you KILLED the interest of a major supporter with this horribleness.

So, Overall: I like it. It really gives me the decision how i wanna play my mechs.

The Upsides:
1. The Skilltree is now about making decisions, and not grinding till your Mech works just "better"
2. I like the Overall lower heatefficiency
3. No Moduleswapping, no quirkadjusted niche builds on some mechs.
4. More unexpected Builds i see on the battelfield
5. maybe some of those guys who say they leave the game this time finally leave the game.

The downsides:
1. I will have tendon calcification from clicking those Hexagons Posted Image
2. Some mechs will be OP as Shizzle
3. New Players and older aged Players will have Problems with the complex System.
4. The next step: Balncing out Clan/IS again. (While there are some IS Mechs that greatly Profit from the New Skill Tree.
5. Some People might leave that i don´t want to leave.

EDIT: forgot the best Things about this patch: engine Desync, HELLYES, Aaaaand, the Mechlabs new Feature of showing me how much the Range/Velocity/Cooldown actually changed!!!

So..... like in most games if something basic/core is changed on a big scale, 80% of the players freak out on the first days.
For me after played a few QM and done some testing ground and private games with friends, there are some PRO and CONS:
(in comparison to the old skills & modules)

PRO:

- Now you can buy your favorite Mech and skill it up without buying two additional ones.
- No more modul exchange
- Specialisation, you can boost your stats to the role you want to play with the mech, without only a certain build is "valid" for the mech.

CON:

- the whole skill system seems a bit bloated (i think something between old and new one would be fine)
- On first look the SP/GXP/MODULE/CBILLS refund/conversion seems a bit confusing

Neutral

- lots of clicks ;), especially for old players with a lot of mechs or players who like to skill all mechs even those they are not playing anymore
- balance issues with IS <> Clan, at the moment I am not sure if a side gets a real advance (IMO, but I was alwayes a friend of mix-tec)

So here we are.

Why the exorbitant cost for skillpoints?
Why additional xp when you reskill?
Why the blanket nerf to chassis?

What is your grand vision in this? I assure you it is not helping with player retention and an excel sheet for skills is not drawing new players as well.

Where is the break even where investing in operations gets better than investing into weapon heat? How many heatsinks are we talking?
Why is this info not available anywhere?
I am all for experimenting and customization but stabbing in the dark is not cool. At least at a "preview" of what will happen when you select the nodes NOT base percentages but what will happen to your mech!

In my experience the player base had been in noticeable decline for about two years now and severe decline for the last 6 months or so. I've noted especially in the period coming from the skill tree announcement that the level of experienced players has dropped dramatically and the mixing tiers match maker is the worst is ever been. Seem to be thrown in with a lot of potatoe players lately (I'm not saying they're all low tier either).

This likely will be the nail on the coffin for MWO as I see where they want it to go and I get the idea. I even agree with it to an extent. However the implementation is a dogs dinner that will just drive new players away that haven't got the space buck Balance or XP balance to handle this. Despite the new system favouring less mech variety overall but more chassis duplication and weapon boating.

They didn't take away anything, since you don't have any rights to the content of the game, including but not limited to the items in your account.
Keep in mind this is a free to play game made by a company. Some think this patch will break the game. I believe we will se a rise in good games and experience less salt overall. (mainly because a lot of the salt went back to sea)

It's unfortunate that it isn't to your liking, but surely you will try and make it work, right buddy?

The money I've spent on the civil war pre-order is still mine. And its on it's way back into my bank account.

I keep trying to force myself to play this game, even though I know that I can' t bring myself to like what has been done. I just don't enjoy playing anymore. My favorite mech is broken.

Devs stated in skill tree Q&A that they want to address balance with base tech stats instead of quirks. So they are reducing quirks in this patch and they're revisiting energy weapon stats next month.

Yea, sure they are. Just like they will be 'carefully monitoring the impact of the changes'.

History shows that what will actually happen is that the significant imbalances introduced via the Skill Tree will go unaddressed for months, then they'll say they are "waiting for data from the new tech".

And you refuse to see the development through and hope that they'll balance it out over the summer? A lot of stuff is broken right now, they even admitted that part. There was no other way than rip apart the seams of the game to make such a big change.

And you know what? My favourite mech is broken as well. That mech was played 75% of my matches, and I have close to a million XP on it.

they are starting to address balance, sure

but if you think it will be finished over the next few months you are just kidding yourself

how long has IK been coming?

or the art pass for mining collective that disappeared into the ether after not arriving in october?

or the promised revision to loyalist rewards?

Well, didn't have much time, but spec'd out my Griffin 1s and it is very tanky, but runs a bit hotter even with all the energy heat reduction unlocked, moves like a light now though.

geeez...I just launched to check how the skill tree looks and after 5 mins of stupidly stare at my screen I turned the game off....looks like some sick "skill minigame" that takes forever to click through :( Disgusting to go through all my mechs, tree looks chaotic mit many blid routes for setup....I will launch world of tanks instead. What a mess.

These are not difficult concepts. It's not complex. GSP, HSP, and HXP are legacy transfer items only, so new players won't even have to deal with those.

Are you being intentionally sarcastic here? PGI pretending to be catering for new players in MWO?

Well, like we said back then, the game became more grindy, but it's not all that bad. Previously grinding out the module slot was just a pointless slog from elite to master, now it has meaning, and I have an incentive to revisit old mechs I left at elite. My biggest concern is that this system will introduce some OP builds for some mechs, so I hope PGI will address that when meta sets in and OP builds are revealed. Other than that, kudos to PGI for having the guts to push this big of a change. At least this means they have vision.

I see this criticism pop up a lot, so I have to wonder - do you HAVE to skill up all your mechs at once? Skill them up one by one when you get to playing them. I mean if I tried to skill up all the mechs I have, I'd probably spend a week in MWO doing just that.

Very simple.

So to clarify - you were just meaninglessly venting?

It's not realistic of PGI to think that half the playerbase will accept being whipping boys for 6 months. They should never have released it until they had a balance in place that was at least acceptable to start with.

I had a hard time deciding how I want to skill up my first mech but the next 7 were pretty straight forward. I love the thought you need to put in each build, then test it out and re-spec a few nodes to get it just right. I don't mind the UI, the clicking etc. etc. Some of the builds I had were pretty awful but now they kick ***. Also I have an urge to build something really crazy now and troll people lol. Thanks PGI for bringing the fun back into the game it was about time.
