Cool. Forrest Gump had a saying about people that might apply to this, and it wasn't about a box of chocolates.

I mean the end of rule of three now allows me to go crazy with buying the "**** tier" IS mechs.

I play to kill other humans. That is pleasurable. I can't do it in the real world, and there's no crime for doing it in the digital one. To me, that's a great reason to play.

The most beautiful and purest of reasons.
Thank you.

Actually, what I just realised, there might be an easy remedy for you.

1.) IS mechs will not only still be fast, but also become faster with the arrival of the LFE.
2.) General agility and such will still work based on engine power, as Accel/Decel is a function based on Delta-V of current speed and top speed.
3.) You can still master as many mechs as you like. You can even master the same mech twice and give it a different leaning.

Looks like the reasons for your stomach ache is being misinformed and not bothering to read and/or verify. Phew. Guess you are a hypochondriac.

LFE does NOT equal the firepower gains necessary to compete with Clan mechs... stop say dumb stuff. LFE will be a niche engine at best, but even then it will never replace the necessity of IS XL means IS will always be worse than Clan.

I've been checking in now and then, waiting for a reason to get back in the game, but this absolutely isn't it. It is nice that lighter mechs get more from many upgrades, and some of the specialization looks sweet, but that's all that I have nice to say about it. My biggest gripe is the cost to reset everything. I had more fun tinkering with mechs than I did playing the game. Handicapping that ability to try new things, making us buy more and more and more bays and grind for mechs to do new things is a HUGE step back. It's a game breaking step back, especially since PGI has a history of buffing things through the roof then nerfing them to nothing the very next patch. This system is a big mistake. At least let us upgrade everything in the tree then switch it around as we see fit. There's still plenty of grind in there, and still an incentive to buy more mechs to save the hassle of re-configuring everything all the time.

The Q&A post with Paul and Chris had over 12,300 views. Out of those who viewed it, only 98 viewers (including you) gave it a like at the time of this writing.

I'm sure out of the over 12,300 who did not hit 'Like,' there are far more than just 20-30 "butthurt masses," as you put it, who disagree with this change. And I'm sure it's a lot more that the 98 viewers who hit 'Like.'

Hope you get what you asked for, Bishop.

Conjecture based on personal predisposition makes for questionable arguments.

So, lights which were already fast stay fast, and those that run standards are getting faster because of the LFE, but other than that no one's getting faster? Only the brawlers, assaults, and such? And the LFE doesn't allow XL builds to become tankier, which improves IS performance, too?

You can look at everything from a negative light, if you want to. Be my guest.

Switching an XL build to LFE requires a sacrifice in speed and/or firepower for durability. Given a Clan XL allows you to keep all three, you should be able to see why the LFE is not going to fix Clan vs IS balance. It's also not coming out for 2 months, so it's completely irrelevant to the discussion of why this patch sucks.

How about you look at things from my perspective here? You're a Clan player trying to convince us that this patch isn't all that bad, when we can plainly see that IS mechs are getting hit much harder than Clan mechs in the quirks department, and your main argument is that something will come in 2 months that will make everything better. Why nerf bad mechs now in anticipation for a possible buff in 2 months? What purpose does that serve?

Huh.
That is exactly what I thought...
...after reading PGI's rationale of how this pile of patch is supposed to provide improved balance someday.

LFW will allow mechs that aren't XL safe to increase their speed, firepower and bring them from the lower tiers to higher ones. Marauders can load up on weapons, Atlas can stock up, Roughneck can bring more punch/ammo/speed and still remain durable enough to brawl and stand in attention. Yes, mechs that were forced to use XL engines such as the Battlemaster LPL boat do not benefit from the LFE, but they could go LFE, trade some firepower and heat for more durability. The LFE will allow mechs from both side of the spectrum (fragile, big guns/durable, slowboats) to make a step towards a middleground.

Why is it happening now? Because it has to happen eventually. And it can't happen all at once, because if if too many things change, it's easily to get completely useless metrics data. That's my explanation. No idea if that is the case. Will the transition period suck a fat one? You bet your derriére it will. It'll suck for anyone in any mech, though. We don't know how the meta is going to shift (the very fact that 10 people know 12 ways the meta is gonna go should tell you that) and while all that dust is settling, new tech will be here in a jiffy. I understand and am quite aware that new tech is still ways out, and during the time until it's arrival, several mechs, especially IS mechs, will feeling like incomplete puzzles, but that's something you can only meet with patience.

You're a Clan player
My unit is clan, I play both IS and clan mechs in QP. We don't actively participate in FW, especially since 85% of my unit are dead and the other player left in my unit is barely still playing. During Tickle-Me-Terra III, I played clan because that's where I was. My favourite mechs at the moment are the Centurion, Kushwankers and I cannot wait for the new tech to upgrade the Roughnecks from STD to LFE engines. I understand your assumption based on the "loyalist" icon, and the emotional charge behind it, but your rejection of my posts based on that icon is misplaced. "Your perspective" is my perspective, by 50%. I don't subscribe to one side of the tech base. I could go on how I prefer my Locust over the Cheetah, or how I'm hype for the Javelin, etc. pp., but you surely get my point that I may look like a "clanner", but outside of FW, I'm firmly seated in IS mechs just the same.

Here's how I see it - most clan mechs are stuck with the same engine/speed unless they go through the mobility skill tree to speed tweak.

IS mechs don't need to invest in that tree nearly as much + can put in bigger engines to gain higher top speeds.

That right there is something that should affect balance a little. Not earth shattering, but they need to have more things in place like this in order to make asymmetrical balancing work.

I'm on a break as well. To be honest, I don't even know what I'm waiting for anymore, so a "break" is a weird word for it. It doesn't look like the sky will fall down any time soon. Most of the players who would have been outraged a few years ago have simply packed up and left the game, and most people who are still here are still excited by more and more mech packs, so PGI has no reason to stop milking the whales.

I read the PGI Q&A post and my eyes rolled into the back of my head. I came to the GD forum looking for reactions and everyone was like:
"So... anyway, what's the next mech pack? Are we getting that Blood Asp now?"
