It would be cool if each faction in the game treated players differently. For instance, the Draconis Combine has often not been so "nice" to Mercs, treating them with the Company Store method (making resources expensive, so the Mercs end up joining the Dracs as a regular unit. However, the Draconis Combine honors loyalty, and so a very loyal unit might get percs. In addition, the Draconis Combine may have some of the most skilled mechwarriors in the IS. However the Draconis Combine also is very rigid, and so leaders (Commanders) may be taught to fight in ways the High Command feels is appropriate.
It would be very interesting if each faction has some different skills lists from others, as well as having some mechs more common than others.

Make each faction different?

I think that will be balanced with the Influence points. Maybe you will need some "loyality points" more for Teddy K. then for the other factions.

I think the devs have something like that in mind. I pulled this from the dev blog on community warfare:
"Faction Worlds – Are fought over by Faction players. These planets buffer core and border worlds, and do not play a significant role in major historical events. Rewards for controlling these planets are directly linked to global bonuses and abilities associated with a player’s Faction."
This could just indicate a distinction between bonuses that come with being a faction player versus a merc player. Not entirely sure.

Kai Allard-Liao, anyone? Differences between factions would be nice. It would be more interesting to kill Fed Rats, than to kill someone just disugised as them. It would still be fun, though.

Well Davion Mechwarriors tend to favor ACs traditionally, erhaps let them train their AC accuracy up a bit higher as they use it more often.
Liao loves it's stealth and sneakyness, so perhaps they are better at training scouts to stay off the radar while closer up through limiting their mechs actions.
Steiner likes Assaults, we all know that. So perhaps Steiner commanders ("Social Generals") get bonuses while commanding Assaults, but they may be limited in their use of faster mechs, possibly losing conctact with mechs that are far away from the commander.
I was thinking of Kai even as I wrote the OP, I knew someone would bring him up. He was a freak. The Kuritans in general have the best trained IS mechwarriors. To model this, perhaps lower levels of gunnery and piloting might be a bit cheaper for Kuritan Mechwarriors, the higher levels which are only held by the truly elite would cost the same for everyone. On the flip side, Kuritans might have to pay a bit more for equipment over all, as their economy is not the best.
Finally the FWL...well, they're hard to really place as they have so many subfactions, I would just call them the average faction with no negative or positive traits. They're jacks of all trades.
Liao loves it's stealth and sneakyness, so perhaps they are better at training scouts to stay off the radar while closer up through limiting their mechs actions.

As for Kia take in consideration that he was always pushing himself & second-guessing himself to live up to the image of his parents. Granted he didn't have to & was told this on numerous occasions. Also, when he failed at something he would relook at the situation until he figured out how to succeed at the goal.

I agree with that except for the FWL, the FWL technologically and premier units favor energy weapons, primarily lasers.
