I have 126 armor in the CT and I still have 21 SP to spend on my Ilya.

You seem to be forgetting that all the other mechs have gotten access that same percentage armor buff too.

It's not only the skill tree buff.
It's the fact that CTF has very high armor quirks (e.g. +22 on CT).
Combined with the +16% armor bonus I get from skill tree I can surpass a base 100 tons mech like the Kodiak on CT armour (124 vs 126 of my IM). If it is intentional I am the happiest CTF owner of the forum...

Huh. I might have to look into this. CTF was always one of my favorite chassis, but stopped running them much, because reasons.

After NewTech, maybe 3xRAC5 ILya Murdermetz......

Er... wow that's more than an Atlas on a 70 ton 'mech.

The Orion and the Victor would be others capable of this sort of thing.

I'm not sure if this is good or bad. The skill tree allows you to invest in armor to create a tank but on 'mechs already quirked for armor it seems to create a bit of a monster...

Hmmm. My VA, with this, and the LFE, might just be able to brawl effectively against those Clam bastiches, again.

Probabily PGI will tune down some armor quirks... It's a little bit extreme IMHO, but I still need to understand is it makes sense to invest almost all my skill points in armor and firepower.

It is intentional. Chris Lowery talked about it on the Javelin intro stream on NGNG. However, remember that you are making sacrifices in other Skill Classes to get that awesome armor. This is where the choices come in. Do you want to be a monster tank that can lead the charge and soak up a lot of damage? Or do you want to be the agile weapon carrier that can deal the damage but is not so tough? How do you like to play? We have choices now.

I've gone into several matches with my brawling Warrant and Scorch and made a very fast discovery. The Time to Kill has been increased. It is very noticeable. Previous to this patch I could wade into a brawl against a foe and get work done but now...? The Survival tree is making a huge difference on getting a mech dead and my exposure time in messing around with it.

I think other brawlers are going to find this out too and it's adding more risk for the old reward in that it takes longer, and that's not something I'm okay with. I think we're going to see a shift back to the mid and long range game for certain. Yes, I know the meta hasn't been supporting brawling for a while now but this change will make that increasingly more clear.

Yeah, but if you're invested large into the Survival tree, you might be lacking somewhere else. Operations is really useful, as is the Mobility and Sensor trees. You might need that 100+ CT armour, due to lack of twist speed.

It takes longer because you are firing slower, and still running equally hot or even hotter. TTK went up, period. Got nothing to do with the Survival tree. And Survival is a trap anyways, Firepower is WAY more powerful. On some of the god level quirked IS mechs it would be highly debateable, but generally speaking, you should not invest in it.

As a 'phract pilot of fairly decent skill, I find this interesting; however, seeing the skill tree as a whole, my excitement is significantly tempered.

It is even better on lights and mediums with heavy structure/armour quirks due to the durability skills scaling with tonnage.

HBK-4SP has 86 CT structure and VND-1X has a 91 CT armour pool. That is not bad at all for a 45 tonner.

I am still a little unhappy about the quirk changes(the command chair post at least was a clear articulation of goals though), but this part of the skill tree and the ammo quirks was something I looked forward to from the first PTS iteration. Some IS mechs will be hyper tanky for their weight class for at least a little while. It will give a different mech style to play.

What's the problem? So now it can survive two whole alphas from your standard clan mech? Gee, how ridiculous. I fail to weep for you.

Some variants of Cataphract (including the Ilya) have 2 high energy mounts. Dunno why people keep ignoring those. Posted Image
