Hey there,

Now, I might not be the smartest knife in the shed, but I do think I know my butt from my co... rooster when it comes to stompy robbits. I also used to play a couple of games with skill trees or general skilling systems, both in meat spaces and in the binary world, so I do figure myself somewhat apt at making things work with limited resources (WoW, Diablo-likes, D&D, stuff like that).

If you are looking for a skill tree build for a given mech, feel free to post the build (Smurfy MechLab here) and I'll figure something out for you. No guarantees, no fees, no strings attached. Only thing I am asking of you is behaving like a decent human being. Also, don't shiptoast each other about your builds. I really don't give a flying funk about what you put on your Dance-Dance-Revolution machines.

So, yeah, I'll spec lurm worms, too. With disdain, but, you get that for free. I'll be here for the next 7.5 hours (yay telephone guard duty), and I might pick this up again tomorrow, if there's interest.

Let's see 'em.

TL;DR: Post smurfy, say what you like, I'll make a skill tree build for ya.

Just remember that this thing is based on percentages.

You fast? Go with mobility to maximize those values.
You got lots of defensive quirks? Then this is a case where you might just want to node out that defensive tree.
You got lots of heat sinks? Then Operations is your friend.
You one of the fortunates that still has cooldown quirks or range bonuses? Use that first row of the fire power tree (at least).

Etc. Play the percentages. Maximize your mech's values.

Then post that shi7 on my thread and win a mech pack if the community likes what you have done:

I like tags and having armor on my head and right arm. Help me stat out a skill tree that will maximize the effectiveness of my machine gun and the survivability of my head and right arm.

Sure thing!

Skill Tree Link

I opted to invest heavily into survival to keep your right arm well protected, with the maximum structure and armor possible. Going from there, I also maximized your ammo reserves, as you clearly are dangerously low on both NARCs and MG ammo - don't want that gun to run dry in dire circumstances. To assist your inevitable victory, I opted to added the best artillery strikes money can buy, with high precision and additional charges, so you can call a devastating strike not once, but twice onto the heads (which are surely less protected than yours!) of your enemies.

Hope to see you on the battlefield (on the opposing team), and good luck!

I'm currently tossing up between Survival and Mobility... and after playing a few battles with Survival, I'm leaning towards Mobility.

Here's my basic build with Survival, with 24 points left over for Firepower.
And here's the basic build I'm considering with Mobility, with 25 points left over for Firepower.

My Firepower build depends on what sort of weapons I'm running.
24 points into Laser Duration and Heat Gen nodes (obviously for Laser builds)
24 points into Velocity and Heat Gen (for PPC builds)
24 points into Cooldown and Magazine Capacity (for Autocannon builds)
20 points into Missile Spread and Missile Rack (for SRM/LRM builds)

Last one has a handful of points left over to select some other nodes that would be useful for secondary weapons, like heat gen or laser duration.

Why not both (26 points left for firepower)? With some fat-cutting here and there, and dropping the borderline dangerous Advanced Zoom, while optimising some paths, you can eek out a dozen points and grab both Survival and Mobility.

I use Advanced Zoom on everything but my brawlers and LRM boats, because I struggle to make out small objects on my screen.
I'd also prefer to keep all the Cool Run nodes in Operations, as those have a large effect on the laser/PPC vomit builds with large numbers of heat sinks that I like running.

It's not a bad idea to build that way, but it isn't something I'd want to use myself.

Another alternative is to just forget about Firepower entirely, and run Survival + Mobility. Good thing about doing that is I can pretty much run the same build on every mech, very little customisation needed.
