And why are people punished for wanting to play a support role?

AMS gets no range enhancements.
AMS gets no ammo bonuses.

One would think the vast number of range nodes in the firepower tree would affect AMS as well (it is a weapon after all), but no.
One would think that the AMS would benefit from ballistic ammo nodes (it is a version of a MG, after all), but no.

As for support roles, no MMO in existence and very few players truly understand the benefit and power of support, why should MWO be any different?

The range nodes boost all weapon ranges, including AMS. Unlock all the range nodes and its +15% to everything. For the AMS that amounts to 138 meters. Tag is up 15%, Flamers 15%, etc.

Odd, when I looked at my AMS range while altering firepower skills, I saw no changes at all, even when I saved the skills. Now that I go back, having tried the build in an actual game, you are correct, Dee Eight, there is a range increase shown on the mouse-over of my AMS.
Good.

However, that still doesn't address ammo.
Sadly, it also adds a new problem to the mix, that the impact of new skills purchased (or considered) does not immediately update. Especially in such a multi-node system, the changes need to be shown immediately on the loadout tab so that value can be at least slightly judged.

(I may have run across that problem on more than the AMS, since I was adding/removing skills, then before saving a skill build I tabbed over to 'loadout' to see the impact and didn't seem to be getting any benefit from some changes, which I then discarded. (spent the points elsewhere, Hmm))

AMS benefits from ordinary range nodes, on a side note AMS is now bugged and doesn't work propperly.

Yea. My kit fox can get 150m ams range with all the range nodes. The problem at the moment is that ams actually isn't firing at ANY missiles that aren't locked onto YOU. RIP to my kit fox. How could something like this make it into the patch, and why isn't it fixed yet?

I see. Thank you.
However, I kinda ran out of skill points spending them on support nodes.

Expect a hot fix for the AMS bug, perhaps the LRM10/Streak-2 dynamic geometry bug, and the Consumable slots bug (Javelins and Roughnecks still have 2 free slots when everyone is supposed to be 1 free slot unless you invest in nodes).
