Preamble: Haters gonna hate it.

I would like to express my appreciation for a major advance in this game. I was initially overwhelmed with the skill tree and still don't know what all the different sorts of XPs are, but after 4h of tweaking all my humble set of 20 mechs (I use to have only mechs I actually use in battle), I feel there is a major gain in this game than is was before.

Now every player is able to design his specific mech according to his own playstyle. I battle felt a significant improvement and more diversity of builds and roles.

Good job. Keep it going!

I have 40+ mechs, and I'm enjoying the depth of customization added from the skill tree. The initial speccing is daunting as a task, but still enjoyable. Once it's done though it'll be easy sailing and I look forward to dialing in perfection.

I'm actually relieved that the players who are irrationally complaining about the tree are leaving, because they're generally the types that bring online game communities down a peg.

Normally I pull my fingernails out for fun. But now I can log into MWO and have fun in the skill lab, or actually join a pug match where half the team maybe is running a basic mech with no skill specs. Love getting rolled.

My apology, but if someone complains about something, that doesn't make him irrational. It could just mean that he doesn't like the feature, I think.

For me, the new system was fun right up to the point that I read that now I have to spend C-Bills just to purchase the privilege to use the xps I earned to improve skills. They've turned it from "I get xps to buy skills and C-Bills to buy equipment" to an either/or situation. Now you have to weight if you want to, say, buy that medium pulse laser you need or buy the cool down node you want. In fact, It may have been simply to just have everything cost C-Bills/MCs and do away with xps altogether.

I can see a lot of players (especially beginners) choosing other costs over utilizing the Skill Tree or even leaving it behind altogether.

Just my two cents

It looks like it just widens the gap between the "elite' meta players and the most casual players. With the old system, at least with time new payers would get the XP to bring their mech chases up to what the top tier players were running (not including modulus and load-outs). Now players not coping the meta optimal builds will always be handicapped. Or as least, it has a strong potential to be that way.

New players die too much, and get discouraged from playing the game. I wanted the player base to grow, but this has me more worried then before.
I had a play, but thinking I'll take a break from the game and just evaluate new 'meta; build in a few weeks. Id be more likely to experiment myself, but with the cost involved in even trying new tree combos, I'll pass. (IMO it should just cost to unlock, you re-specking should be free.. but that's another topic... lol)
Hope this works out in the long run I guess....

There would be no less depth of customization with 1/8th the number of nodes and no respec cost. It would take less time to click through the tree and you would get the same benefit. Also you would be able to see it all on one screen.
