Oh please, I don't know anyone in a good unit who enjoys farming potatoes. It's a huge waste of time and is less challenging than a single-player game.
There's not enough population, so there's no matchmaker, which means solos and lesser skilled units are inevitably going to run into very good units and get demolished. And of course there will be crying and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Armchair psychologist up there thinks it's about bullying and whatnot, i.e. better players are emotional defectives. It's dumb. We don't play FW because we want to farm you, we play it in the hopes of facing a good team on the other side (not you). Two good teams facing each other in FW is about the most fun you can have in MWO.

Why Is It?

As soon as I saw your name, I remembered you from those days. I wondered what drivel you'd post to defend the empty FP queues and a format designed for seal-clubbing.
I particularly enjoyed the part where you pretended I was arguing against pro teams on the NFL playing against each other; sure, that's not what I posted,
You claimed that professional sports use matchmakers. I'm waiting for you to support that claim in regards to your chosen metaphor, the NFL.
You got any evidence that the NFL uses matchmakers to make balanced match ups or are you just going to pretend you never said they did?

but who cares about that. Nobody has a problem with such matchups, since that's like 2 pro MWO teams playing each other. The problem is when the PUG's and casuals - the high school team in my example - get tossed up against pro teams. That's the problem - duh!

It's still a dumb analogy. No one in this game is a professional. If we follow your analogy, then we should prevent new players from playing in Faction Play until they've logged a few thousand hours in the game. That's the difference between a high school kid and a pro, thousands of hours of work and years of biological growth. If we put a matchmaker into it, then it's just quickplay with respawns. There's no immersion there.

Ah, well - nothing has changed. You're still picking a fight and misrepresenting my posts even though you've lost this argument years ago - the empty FP queues prove that I was right.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc and a confirmation bias are not "proof" of anything.

Anyway, you're back on my ignore list.
Bwaaaa haaaa haaaa. What's the point of an ignore list if you have to keep putting people "back on to it?"

Have a nice life, since I won't be reading anymore of your fight-picking drivel.

You are correct, there are people who show the good sportsmanship you claim, for whom an actual challenge is the goal. I'm certain some units in MWO do follow that pattern. However, as the OP pointed out, that isn't everyone, and the sad truth is that for this sort of community, it only takes a few without that sense of fair play to spoil things.
I will also happily admit that the main problem in MWO FW (aka. CW or FP) is not the players themselves, but rather the matchmaker, or lack thereof, in that part of the game. But... chicken or egg?
Now, with pop dropping, people have been observing the the matchmaker in QP is being forced to match higher tier players against lower, often creating very lopsided matches. Many are displeased with that for a number of reasons.
Anybody looking on the forums of this or any number of other PvP games will clearly see examples of dismissive, insulting, and rude posts. You will find posts that attack the poster, rather than the argument presented therein. When those attack posts hit, with a little insight and understanding, you can often clearly see a pattern of behavior, even if you are not a licensed psychologist.
When those posts show a clear desire to allow or even encourage high experience/skill/equipment players to continue to farm rookies, without any sort of mitigation, what conclusion would you reach?
