The TBR took a huge, nonsensical nerf due to the Engine desynch PGI cooked up.

Now it's saddled with a 375 engine with 5 mandatory heatsinks instead of the kind of Firepower the NTG can bring.

Stick with the NTG until they inevitably nerf it.

I'm curious. How many of you dump points in the survival tree for the Night Gyr? Anyone go full mobility for the Night Gyr?

I guess mobility is more crucial for competitive build for most, if not all mechs........

Huge nerf... wut? Laser vomit builds are fantastic with better range, heat, and duration. You can actually brawl better now with heat gen and durability. Put points in torso twist of necessary, although I've always thought JJ can mitigate the need for faster twist or anchor turn.

A high speed without quick torso twist capability is of limited use in real world. Yes you can still quickly re-position yourself, get out bad situation easier with the Timberwolf, but u can no longer brawl as good as it used to be, nor being able to trade advantageous at range as a 75 toner due to the lack of free tonnage available (eaten by fixed equipment and the fatty XL375 locked with), while not exactly "bad", it is much harder to find a role it really excels at under the current form of game balance than the past......

On the other hand, with the Timby you can save the points you would normally spend for Speed Tweak and use it to improve other characteristics on the mech. With the Night Gyr, I feel Speed Tweak is a must due to 64 kph being too slow to really keep up with the Nascar that goes on.

Night Gyr is for carrying the big guns. It is the best Clan heavy at carrying two large ballistic weapons and the only Clan mech besides the Dire Wolf that can viably carry three.

Night Gyr - More guns
Mad Cat - More speed

Both are filthy clan mechs and should not be used, though.

Not anymore. Got a Night Gyr yesterday and it its way better than the TBR especially since the desynch as the TBRs main strength was cut greatly.

Greetings MechWarriors. Today I have a simple question. Which mech is better, in what ways, and why? Which would you rather have post skill tree?

One is more versatile than the other.

The timberwolf is more versatile than the Gyr, but the Gyr is better at ERPPC and Gauss which is the current meta (still).

I should add that I already own a Timber Wolf, and use it for Laser Vomit or SRM brawling. I'm looking for a PPC mech on Clan side for when I get bored of my Marauder. Unfortunately, I have to wait a bit on the Kodiaks and Marauder IICs.

Kodiak yes of course but Marauder IIC doesn't have hardpoints for a third 10+ damage ballistic (you can get 3 Ultra 10s on the A but not with an XL) and Ebon doesn't have the tonnage.

Ah, you're meaning large to be a 10/20 rated AC or Gauss? I was thinking anything above MGs. Carry on Posted Image

If you're great with Gauss and poptarting and you drop regularly in a coordinated team then the Night Gyr. However the TBR is often better for pug queue or in FW if you're playing with an aggressive team. SplatTBR is superior on a number of maps in FW, as is the 6mpl TBR in some circumstances.

In comp play the Gyr is hands down better. Easy call. However in QP, where your teammates can't be counted upon, or FW where getting quickly into position and CQC is often a given, the TBR has a lot of use. Ironically so does the Orion IIC.

I'd like to think I'm strangely better with PPCs or Gauss (or even AC5/10's) then Laser Vomit. Thanks!
