I've been out of town for the last few weeks so I wasn't able to play. Decided to give everything a spin now that it was on live and not test.
First mech I tried is a MAD 5D. I was really liking it before the patch so thought it would be a good place to start. I had 60ish SP for it so I got full radar dep, speed tweak, and some heat reduction in firepower. Overall it felt mostly the same. I'll have to put more points into max torso twist range, and I think some points in armor might be worthwhile as well. No real complaints here.
I was going to try my Victor but I realized I don't have enough points to get radar dep and I don't see the point in playing without radar dep considering all of the LRMs that are flying around. Previously I just dropped in the module and played despite the fact I had no skills unlocked, now though that doesn't work. I don't like the idea of using GXP for unlocking nodes but it might have to happen for new mechs.
I then went to my Black Widow where I had enough points for 60% radar dep but nothing else. Movement is sluggish, very sluggish so I will definitely have to go down the mobility line. However that has to wait until full radar dep is unlocked.
Each match provided enough exp to get a few SP banked, but I'm kind of like
"so what". Oh look, I got two or three more SP but unless they are the ones that hit the actual skill I want then they are giving me boosts I don't care about. More target decay... who cares. More sensor range.. over it.
It honestly makes me not want to play mechs that I don't already have 50 or so points banked. At least my Marauder had enough points I could knock out the requirements so now I'm just rounding out the build.
I'll keep testing it out some more, but I'm still very disappointed in how they went about implementing this change. I think there are better ways and in the end they are going to lose customers and revenue because they choose poorly.

..... You know you can use the GSP from your modules to buy skills for those Mechs that didn't have full HSP (meaning: those Mechs you hadn't mastered before the skill tree).

Still far better than waiting forever to get that 8500 XP for the Speed Tweak.

The way they implemented it, you'll get a full set of 91 skill points from HSP alone if your mech was mastered, then modules will give you zounds more. I didn't even have a lot of modules vs how many Mechs I had, but I've got 91 HSP banked on almost all my Mechs (they were mostly mastered) plus over 10,000GSP.
well, more accurately, 21,000 per mech for 3 Mechs for basics (iirc) so 63,000, then another 8500 for speed tweak, so 71,500xp
