I've kind of noticed the opposite, as far as the survivability tree goes. While all that extra armor isn't doing anything to protect the rear if it's all loaded on the front, a general extra 30%+ of structure is nothing to sneeze at, on any mech. I've been running an 8xSRM6 Huntsman, and these mythical soap bubble enemies are yet to present themselves.

I think all the melodrama about the agility nerfs is a bit over the top too. While my 100 tonners are all more ponderous, i'm still yet to encounter an enemy that can 100% stay out of my arcs with some hard reversing and panicked twisting. I'm more cognizant now of being supported when I do anything, instead of relying solely on my own stupendous firepower and ability to twist and soak (and oh man, the Atlas is fun as hell). Big mechs now need support, instead of being their own support, and I fully endorse this.

i saw them literally every game. even in group queue. all the structure in the world won't allow you to survive 2 splat alphas to the back. one? maybe. two? big fat nah-uh.

and that's the problem.

the agility nerf makes it easier than before to keep their butts in your crosshairs. and since shooting the butt counts as a rear torso hit, fat mechs are way more vulnerable to light mech "take downs" than before.

1) slower turning speed makes keeping enemy butts in your crosshairs easier.
2) considering most mechs rely on lasers as back-up weapons for defending themselves against ninjabuttsecks brawlers, they can't hold a burn long enough to do troubling damage to agile mechs due to nerfed torso turning speed as well.

yeah they can swipe a bunch of lasers across a nimble mech like the ach or linebacker, but who cares when the damage is so insignificant. they're going down in seconds.

maybe the agility of having arm mounted weaponry would serve as a deterrent. but low slung arms on a large number of mechs mean weapon convergence and increased exposure are problem when facing heavier opponents.

its funny.

because the blanket agility nerf really screws over ttk and makes mis-matches even more one-sided. the fattie pilots who already think light mechs are op are going to be SO MAD when they start figuring out how easily and quickly they'll get taken down by dem durty light pilots due to the changes.

i'm sure its completely unintended but pgi managed to make lights and brawling great again due to how precious agility is now. that's awesome.

Oh for the days when my Spider 5K could get behind an Atlas and stay there, blazing away with it's machine guns and ER LL. I nick named it The Tick for that reason. I may have to dust it off and try it again.

Lights were hit pretty hard with the agility nerfs also, if you subscribe to all the complaining about that too (and they do indeed feel dangerously sluggish). There's also been lots of complaints about the death of brawling, but i'm pretty sure that's just MadCat pilots that can't flip through the air like a ballerina on crack like they used to. There's also been people complaining that brawling is too strong, that laser vomit is dead, that laser vomit has been buffed through the roof...

There's also been lots of people complaining about the skill tree, and more that seem to be coming around to it. Chief complaint now is that the UI is terrible for it, and I agree.

My point is, I think it just needs some time. People need to relearn things, and work out how best to protect themselves in fights - before they have to relearn it all again once the Civil War tech drops.
