So for a chuckle i read some new reveiws and i kept seeing this pop up over and over. The Kids catch phrase for anytime they don't want to pay for something its automatically a "cash grab" Honestly a phrase i hate, don't wan't to pay for the DLC, then don't. I know i skip it often, others i get it. But that is really not the point.

Legit, how are people saying this new system is a cash grab? I am totally baffled by it. Here is what i picked up on sales this year so far.. a bunch in the latest, but others were over this new year basically since the rule of three going bye bye was announced.

I had been saving all my C-bills since last june, because i was hoping for a module sale that never came. so instead i added some mechs, everyone at 35% off! Posted Image

Clan account,
Adder
Kit fox
viper
mad dog
Warhawk
Direwolf

Is account,

Urban
Enforcer
Pheonix hawk
Sparky
Griffin 2n
Warhammer
Gasshopper
KIng Crab

My Clan acount has Zero GSP, so those will cost me 24m to master them in total. My IS account has plenty of GSP so not a worry..

My savings under this system by not having to buy the extra mechs is 225m. I'm really at a loss how this is bad for anyone but at the very least not what people are calling it. Do people just not know what that phrase means any more?

Both accounts got a really nice boost in diversity, and now i only had to spend a little on mech bays, verse needed triple, (aka less real world money for bays) Less grind, less of everything other than fun playing what i want. What am i missing?

The only things I bought was some MC, a mech bay, and the Overlord level of the Phoenix Package. You can play the game without spending a dime.

New system is a "cash grab".

What?

If anything it is a cash dump. They dumped cash (in game currency) on the existing players. They dumped their existing financing scheme of the three mech model and made it such that a player can play on equal terms with just a single mech.

While I am not happy with many aspects of the skills tree and it associated changes, I cannot fathom how anyone could accuse it of being a "cash grab".

From my point of view its not a cash grab but a C-bill sink I did not know if I would like the new skill tree at first but as time goes on IM finding it fun. All of my 66 mechs on this account has 23 SP plus a few had 91 SP to test a few node groups out with.

But I don't know if I will ever master all 66 mechs because one big reason (PREMIUM TIME) I don't buy it in 360 day lots just when I buy steam packs which they don't change often enough like every other month or enlist every 3 month.

PGI marketing skill blowwwwwww chunks really on good ways to sale there products to me anyways. Without premium time its a long boring grind to master a single mech even if now you don't have to grind out 3 mechs.

More like "rolling in cash"'or "we can light our cigars, with 10k c-bill notes".

If anything, they dumped so much cash all at once that we even some folks in my unit (who are so flush!) that they have cut back playing FW invasion because of it. FW in Domination mode: Nah....not feeling it....don't need the c-bills and can't take a planet late in cycle...let's scout or do group queue instead. People have openly stated to me that they don't need the extra c-bills invasion brings...so they get picky about the mode.

As Bud stated...Skilltree may be many things....but a cash grab isn't one of them

Actually, any time PGI offers anything for sale is a Cash Grab. Didn't you know that the Canadian Government gives all do.estic video game design firms a multi-million dollar stipend every year? PGI doesn't have to sell anything for money - every time they sell anything it is a greedy, greedy cashbgrab by a company that does not need income derived from customers.

Get with it people!

There is probably just the assumption. "Something changed, they must be doing it to get more money, even if I can't tell how exactly." Which is of course true - PGI will always look at its bottom line, but part of that will require making a game that people want to play - which means just straightforward improvements.

I suspect the skill system did cause them to think about how much thy might be losing if there is no longer the rule of three in play. And I am not sure where they are getting that back... (But it might be a reason why they didn't want to refund all modules as C-Bills. The GSP might already cost them enough, as the mech skill system is basically cost-neutral for a while for many long time players.)

It was their bottom line that I thought they were really going to end up hurting with the skills tree.

Though I have been quite vocal about the skills tree (mainly the UI and the half assed way they are approaching nerfs and what I believe that will do their data collection for their asserted closely monitored balance efforts) my issue is not that the skills tree is good or bad, but that many players perceived it to be bad and would not giving it a chance; or that even if it was in fact bad that it would be enough to drive them away. My fear was that it would finally be enough to drive enough of the old guard away -even if just for a time- that population would become compromised, and the game fail. I feared that the whales would view the skills tree as a giant middle finger of their past support as many expressed that when they requested a skills tree re-do 3-4 years ago they wanted a tree -not disembodied webs- and they wanted skills -not quirks in another form- as the "skills tree" presents. Add the whole transition from 3 mechs to 1 model and I thought PGI has finally done something that they might not recover from.

I for one am glad the greater community appears to be embracing the skills tree to at least some extent, however hesitant and qualified that may be. I am glad my fears appear to have been exaggerated if not wholly unfounded (I still think the UI is a POS, and I still think they have screwed their short term data collection efforts with all these changes at once). That acceptance or at least willingness on behalf of the community to give the damn thing a try or at least put up with it means I get to keep playing the game. And hey, all these extra cbills sure doesn't hurt either.

Well that is nice. :)

I was only playing clans when it first launched as i had premium running on my Clan account the day it dropped and mechs to level as it was not flush with GSP. I opened some crates and got even more premium! So i finally got around to IS side. Getting some new mechs in the sale helped me get motiavated to go back to IS.

But when i started playing around with some IS mechs, i was pleasantly surprised. All the IS sucks not retorict going around, to see how they actually played to me felt far from the truth. Maybe because i am not playing one of the mechs that got nerfed? But i played a bunch, and skilled um up. HBK-4sp, 4G, Cataphract 0XP, Stalker 5m, atlas K, cicada 3L(this one is smoking hot, might need to rethink the build) even my little deaths Kneel turned out to be pretty fantastic. I could not believe the IS tanking power, and easily was pushing matches into higher damages than i had been before. I just am starting to scratch the surface too.

I really like how the play has slowed down, but in some ways not a lot. Over all i'm just liking it, and the tons of mechs i added with ease became a huge bonus.

looks like IS is going to survive!

I'm not sure how the recent changes would inspire someone to go spend cash. On what, mech bays and premium time? Posted Image

While the phrase "cash grab" never came up, at the very least one person in this thread was saying the new skill system was meant to motivate MC purchases that people would turn around and use to buy c-bills... Hey, don't ask me how it makes sense, apparently it did to him.
