I was expecting 3PV to really change gameplay in a very bad way. For a variety of reasons, I was strongly against any 3PV in the game and didn't see how it could be implemented without causing serious problems. Surprisingly, this somehow hasn't happened. It just isn't a clear advantage over 1PV, and overall is probably less effective than simply staying in your cockpit. In 3PV you have no map, a flashing/blinking drone giving away your position and more difficulty aiming. It's really a non-issue at this point. For that matter, so is all the nerdrage over PGI reconsidering their plan to separate 1PV and 3PV matches. It simply doesn't matter when 3PV is clearly less advantageous than 1PV overall. Now, I'm sure people will say, "but it's not a simulation anymore, waaaahhhh!". First, it was NEVER a simulation. They intentionally changed all the weapon stats, armor points, heat scale, etc., to make it a playable GAME. So it will never be what some people want it to be, regardless of 1PV vs 3PV. Second, we ALREADY have broken aspects of the game that are far worse than 3PV from a "simulation" perspective. Seismic, even with the recent nerf, is worse than 3PV will ever be. It's the worst possible wallhack and dramatically reduces the usefulness of light mechs in their traditional scouting role. Yet everyone has "accepted" this for some reason? Sorry, but 3PV simply isn't a problem the way it's been implemented. If PGI ever does implement hardcore matches, I'll probably still use the 3PV queues, simply because I will want to look at my mech camo occasionally. It's such a non-issue at this point that I'll accept any "advantage" someone might have simply for the ability to see my own mech from time to time. That's how much I don't care about 3PV at this point. It could have been a game-breaking issue, and really make me hate the gameplay, but it just hasn't done that. It's one of those rare cases where, somehow, despite themselves, PGI has managed to add a feature that adds functionality, will make some players happy by giving them the option of viewing their mech, and doesn't detract from gameplay in any meaningful way.

Oh man you really gotta break up those paragraphs in that wall of text. Every 3-4 sentences would be adequate.

It honestly doesn't matter, like Russ said it will blow over in a week or two and people will go back to complaining about PPCs or Double Heat sinks or whatever. I think the golden quote is this one, that people should look forward to to see what they'll do to appease the hardcore among us.

This revelation changed our initial 3PV plans and we postponed Hardcore mode (separate queues for 1PV and 3PV), in favor of rethinking the idea and offering up a different solution that also addressed a few more community wish list items.

You see its this forward looking statement that apparently many people skipped right over after reading there was no hardcore mode.
