I only recently discovered the warmhammer looking space marine dudes on Sarna. These elemental suits and the IS versions look badass!

But mates - Mobile long tom artillery! I want a go with that sucka! (Reading sarna makes your eyes light up if you're not familiar with battletech stuff.)

Yah if you start reading through sarna.net and what Battletech is all about beside Mechs it is sad that no one tries to make a game that integrates it all.

As for Elementals...in MWO they should never be playable and operate in 4-5 man groups using JJ as their main way of going around.
Even in BT novels they where mostly effective of
a) IS not haveing a lot of weapons to kill them in one shot
B) No experiance in fighting them
c) targeting systems haveing problems of getting a lock or keeping track of them as they where getting so close to the mech and jumping around very fast.

I think you can't compare a Elementals JJ movement to a Mechs ones. They would accelerate much faster and should be able to "fly" at much lower altitude/angles then mechs.
In TT to MWO terms they would move around at 90m/7,5sec = 12m/sec = 43km/h (3Hex x 30m and a MWO "turn" is 1/4 of a TT turn, so 7,5sec)
That might be not lightning fast but when you have 5 targets going zigzack on you. you can maybe take out one or two but the rest would be so close that, except for lights, a mech wouldn't be able to target anything thats around his feets or even crawling up your mech.

Would they be very powerfull or even a killer? Now but they shouldn't be. They never where, not in the novels or the TT game.
I would make an exception for the beginning of the clan invasion as the IS didn't know how to fight them.
They are a strategical asset.

I don't think they worked well in MW:LL.

At pings over 200, they were very difficult to hit. And because that game gave them the firepower equivalent to a Star (ie 5X) they could rack up huge damage totals over time.

They made the game feel less like BT to me and more like Crysis.

not the last time I pay it a few days ago. a single elemental wont do much damage its self that even with an PPC or heavy laser on it. and it is EZ to hit an elemental let alone walk on it to kill it

the best way to attack with them is to do an and run or sneak up on a mech an jump on it then attack it

i wouldn't mind having elementals, but as npcs not under direct player control. in fact i wouldnt mind having tanks, choppers, aerotech, hovercraft, etc. these would all be pets of your mech implemented as consumables. when called upon a drop pod comes and lands them near your marker. you can give them orders or delegate them to a commander who would have command over a large number of units. this would be really effective in fp. you could use them to defend objectives, attackers could use them as a diversionary force. i think it would be really awesome.

Fair enough. I stopped playing MW:LL when MWO went into open beta.

In MWO, No thanks..

in Single player coming soon.. I sure hope so!

But if you wanna fight elementals, the old mech assault X-box game has um.. I think in the first mission! (or soon anyway) Fun times

Thanks for all your input guys, some stuff was very informative. I can also respect not liking the idea or having alternative ideas like NPC. Other then that I say dream big, its odd when people say they will not add it.... They said that bout the urby to.

I have another similar idea for IS. A tank and plane combo.

player controlled elementals is stupid. we dont need that.

AI controlled elementals could be cool though

yeah but the sad thing is MWO doesnt have a single vehicle at all.

I dont think vehicles should be player piloted though. there should be npc vehicles in some of the gamemodes to add to immersion.
