And yes knowing to play fps is not enough for this game. You need heat management, understanding what nominal weapon distance is and how it translates into damage you produce, positioning, what are hard points and how their placement translates in your way of shooting. etc.

It sure freakin' helps. Half the people I spectate can't even keep their reticle on target.

FP is not that different (even siege mode) from group quick play mode. The only fundamental difference is possibility of "reinforcement" and the concept of "trading tonnage" which it implies.

This kind of thinking explains a lot.

Shrug. If I

1) know that if I play in a 10+ man group, I'm likely to stomp 90% of the teams I face
2) play in a 10+ man group for several hours every night
3) claim I don't really want to stomp 90% of the groups I face

Well, because of points 1 and 2, it's going to be really hard for anyone else to believe point 3. No matter how much I claim otherwise. Until and unless I don't do point 2 anymore. If playing in a 10+ man group is more important to me than anything else, that's my prerogative, of course. But I can hardly say I'd be surprised about people not believing me on point 3.

The hope is to run into another quality group and have a really high quality match. It happened a bunch of times to me today. I ran in a big group and at least half my matches were against big groups of quality players. Many of them were nailbiters. That's what players like me are seeking. Sorry if it's hard for you to wrap your brain around. I'm not looking to farm pugs--they're just in the way of good matches.

Deep down what I really want is the pugs to want to get good at the game. I don't want to just play the same 12 people again and again - I want more people to get good at the game so every match is a good match. Getting good involves teamwork. I don't care if they join a unit or don't. I do want them to play and coordinate with their team, bring good mechs and make a challenging match.

That's a big part of this whole issue. Some people don't want to be good at the game. They want to be bad, play bad, not coordinate in a team game (please let me know when you drop in a match that doesn't have you on a team of 4 or team of 12) and still win consistently. That would require everyone else they play with to be as bad as they are or worse.

Apparently however to some people wanting to be good at the game and play in a team with good players means you're just out to farm bads. The victim mentality just blows me away.

You don't get stomped because there's all these mean people out there wanting to ruin your fun.

You get stomped because you flat out refuse to take the tiny steps involved in not being terrible at FW. Everyone else is just showing up and playing the game. The difference is that they are willing to actually put the effort into winning.

It's really hard to work up a lot of sympathy for that. I'm not talking about new players; there's not a lot of those in any game mode anymore. I'm talking about the people who are NOT new but want to just derp around in FW and still win. Really, really hard to feel sympathy for that.

I got to play EVIL like six times today! Also saw IREX, 420m, and BCMC. Best unicorn day ever.

People who do very well QP are thriving in FW and don't really care about team presence.

It's quite fundamentally different. The fact you don't realise it, says enough.

You need to know far more than just trading tonnage.

Group Q in QP in most time slots of often a joke. A decent 4 man essentially dictates the match given how many below average players are out there that after 100s, 1000s of games have not progressed.

Our 12-man queued for Faction several times starting around 8:30 PM EST last night and literally couldn't get a match. Since we had a 13th waiting, we split into a 7 and a 6-man and synch-dropped a few quickplays hoping to be matched up against one another (it worked once and was awesome fun blasting our unit-mates!).

After a while we lost three people so we went back and re-queued FW with 10 and got ONE match.

The other side was skittles and they... wait for it... accused us of hacking (lag-switching).

Yeah, at that hour the only organized groups you can count on are on the Clan side. It's much more balanced earlier in the day when the Europeans are on.

Our 5-man tried to do FW last night around 10 pm EST....got an Insta-lobby, but ghost-dropped...we imediately re-queued, searched for 10 min and then went back to group queue. Population does seem to be an issue right now....at least mid-week.

I love fighting good teams and honestly, if there was a MM in CW, it's possible that I would never get to fight them because they may be in a higher tier than I am.

It is a love/hate relationship at times....

Love fighting that good team to the very end, last mech at the last minute. Making that last push and just barely scratching out a victory.

But then you sometimes hate fighting that good team and you just know it won't end well. After what you hope was putting up a good fight, you grab your smoke, your drink, or take a bio. Make a suggestion or two, maybe someone has an idea, or saw something that was missed. You then suck it up, learn something from it, dust yourself off and ready the F up.

:)

I appreciate you mentioning the importance of taking a break, thinking about what went wrong, making suggestions on what to try out next and then picking your self up, dusting off and making another go of it. That is what will make the game better for you in the end. Thank you.

That's not good and I would have thought that might have still been considered prime time up north.
I'll have to admit that my patience for waiting is getting worse, but prime time in Oz is not exactly rush hour in the game.

I don't know if it's worse to now just get the insta-win ghost drops so we can effectively queue for hours and not play anything at all or get a ghost drop where we can shoot a few turrets. It would at least mean we were playing the game if there were some serious defenses to overcome to still win the match.

Part of the benefit of TEAM play and comes from a LOT of experience needing to do that in facing other teams.

Self reflection can be painful but also illuminating and enlightening.

I din't sign up for this Posted Image .

Also screw you sexy leaving me alone in steiner Posted Image.

Anyway don't see how MM even balance the game the tier system is a exp system not a ranking system. Tier system = experience =/= Player actualy skill level
If LoL or CSGO actually had the same tier system as MWO does, majorty of there population would be tier 1/2 not because they the top skilled players but they played enough to reach it.

A skilled player has atleast some experience/basic understanding of MWO mechanics, but an experienced tier 1 player isnt necessarily a skilled player. There tier 2/3 players who can beat the crap out tier 1 players but simply stuck on those tiers because they dont play alot QP.

If i din't participate in QP events or played it because FW waiting queu to long i would been still been tier 4/5 with 100 mechs mastered as when i started when i only had 3 IS hunchies not even knowing what torso twist?

What is the goal of the Faction Play game mode?

To take planets. its displayed by the tug of war bar, faction map, list of planets being attacked, what planets are voted for by the loyalists, MC amounts listed on planets when they are selected on the map, and by the unit leader boards. The description is also stated in the “Career Selection” section, the first tab in the faction play UI. It state “Faction Play is where Highly-competitive MechWarrior fight for control over the inner sphere through distinct game modes. It Places a strong emphasis on team cohesion and specialized ‘Mech loadouts, and there is no skill-based matchmaking system in place. Faction play Matches are thus often comprised of experienced and well-organized units of players running heavily customized ‘Mechs.

Next, one might ask how a planet get captures.

Well first off a planet is captured by the opposing faction (IS or Clan) when the tug of war bar gets pushed 95% in favor of one of the 2 factions. This happens when matches are won, every match win = 3.3% progress towards taking planets. If the bar is 95% or higher in favor of a faction when the attack phase finishes, the 4 UNITS with the most wins get a planet. Each member of a UNIT earns 1 point for each match win. Here is an example, a unit has 6 members in a FP match. They win the match, that = 6 points towards capturing a planet for their UNIT. This is the overall goal of the game mode, play matches over an attack phase to earn a planet and MC for ones UNIT!

If someone wants to play a UNIT based game mode, then join a UNIT! If you are playing FP solo and don’t like playing against units or organized groups then I would suggest playing quick play solo drop until you find other people to group with for FP. FP is was not made for the solo player, it’s made for groups to fight against groups. Like WayTooSexy said, “.and well I didn't went to the forums to complain and cry, I decided to look for a unit and try to get better since I wanted to play good matches, not potato fest of solo gameplay, and well eventually I started to play with my actual unit and dudeeee was the best thing evaaaa, I learned a lot just playing with them I went from potato 500dmg to actually a decent player…and like I said if you are a solo player getting stomp you can fix that by yourself, complaining is not gonna make you play better.” Stop pretending that FP is for the solo player, because it’s not. Put in the effort to find a unit that fits your play style, then come back to FP as a team.
If you queue as a solo player you know what you are getting into. Stop trying to paint FP as something it’s not because you want to queue solo (that’s what quick play is for). Yes UNITS stomp pug groups, this is going to happen when solo players join a mode that was intended for UNITS.

As a side note: One feature I have been asking for a while now is a way for units to have an in game recruitment page. This would make it a lot easier for people to find and join units. When people join units and make friends they are more likely to come back and play.
