Can the mouse wheel up and down be mapped to cycle thru weapon groups? ( IM at work ad seeing that it " used" to be years back...but uncertain if it still can be)

Yes, you just need to assign it under the keybindings. I use mine for zooming.

Great. thanks for the replies. Frustrating when you are at work and then think of something you meant to try in game.

I use mine for zooming and the button under the wheel toggles the artillery strikes.

I never liked how mouse zooming was handled in the game, so I got a mouse with a trigger button right on the LMB and set it to Maximum Zoom Toggle, then set the mouse wheel to roll up for Thermal Vision and roll down for Target Acquisition.
I frikkin' love that mouse. (I use the two side buttons for TS3 push to talk and in-game push to talk.)

You can assign weapon groups to mousewheel scroll (which is what I do), but you can't use mousewheel to "cycle through groups". In fact, there's no reason to ever "cycle through groups". Even past Mechwarrior games allowed you to do it (and it was default actually) and it was frustratingly clunky and useless.
