The skill tree links lead to my own copy of nbarne's skill tree tool. I figured in making my own copy, it would stay in stasis - I wouldn't update it, so it wouldn't break when PGI changes the layout of the skill tree.

Unfortunately, it broke all by itself over time without me touching anything. I can't explain that, and no I don't have a solution to view the links.

I'm in the process of building a proper website right now, and it will eventually have this skill tree guide on it, properly updated.

Thank you very much for your explanations Tarogato..
The truth is that your guide is a great job ; that's why I was so interested in seeing the examples of builds that you included in it.
I'll wait with patience and interest the web creation project to which you have referred
A warm greeting and, again, thank you for your attention

This link (as well as others) gives such error in console:

Quote

Failed to load https://jsonblob.com...c-07f854a98005: Response for preflight has invalid HTTP status code 404.

JsonBlob says:

Quote

Blobs that are not accessed in 150 DAYS will be removed.

So the reason of the problem is that the stored info at JsonBlob was deleted due to inactivity. That leads to an exception on page load. Almost certainly the tree info is lost so original skill tree can't be reached/restored.

Max out this tree, it is universally the most powerful. If you max it out, you get between 15% and 31% more HP depending on the weight of your mech. It's worth noting that lighter mechs get relatively more than heavier mechs, which can be a huge boon since they really need every point of health they can get. Also note that these bonuses compound with mech quirks. Armour and structure quirks are a big deal.

To help illustrate how much of a difference this can can make, I've prepared a chart, because I like visualisations.

Posted Image

A 20-tonner gets as tanky as a 25-tonner.
A 35-tonner gets as tanky as a 45-tonner.
A 55-tonner gets as tanky as a 75-tonner.

That is no exaggeration... you really should max this tree out. If you still don't believe me, let me express it like this:

Posted Image

Would you run your mechs with that much armour missing? Even if maxing it out didn't cost any extra tonnage? Because that's how much you would be missing out on. In my opinion, it's substantial.

32 Survival (max armour & structure)
Posted Image

Yellow is optional. If you absolutely need three spare points, you can afford to remove the three in the middle. On the other hand, if you have a spare point on a particularly tanky mech (such as an assault), it wouldn't hurt to add the extra anti-crit point as well.

Avoid AMS. If you are positioning your mech carefully, you should never need AMS. The only time you'll die is if you get Narc'd on Polar or Alpine. Tough luck, but it isn't worth sacrificing tonnage and skill points when it's going to happen so rarely.

26 Survival (conservative)
Posted Image

If you really need to pull off some points to use somewhere else on your mech, this is how I would do it. You save 5 SP. If your mech has structure quirks, you might not want to do this. Instead invest the full 32 points as shown earlier.

21 Survival (stupid conservative)
Posted Image

Don't do this. You can - it's actually kinda more efficient for 85-tonners on up (and maybe 75-tonners with structure quirks)... but armour protects against crits, and structure doesn't. So don't do it. Saves an extra 5 SP if you're really desperate.

Does all this really help? Seems to me, survivability is more about not getting focused in the first place. Often just luck of the draw, very careful or crafty engagement practice. My experience is no matter how beefy the armor, you go down in a second or two to focused fire. 20-30% extra armor means maybe an extra 1/2 second to contemplate your bad decision.

Well, if you are being shot at by the whole enemy team, nah, this does not really help. What it does is help you survive the close calls. There is a difference between being down and still being alive with 29% armour and 2-3 weapons. If nothing else, it wastes more of the red team's heat, so in a close brawl they will have less to spare on your comrades.

Another way of putting it. We all many remove a few points from Arms/Legs for that 0.5 ton to get something to fit in but only very few would remove armor from the torso locations. Extra Internal Structure allows a location last for another hit or two (laser pass..) before being destroyed, taking what is left in that location, such as a side torso then corresponding arm, leg then being crippled, or first side torso with an isXL engine it because PGI is a loretard, then said mech is dead, or CT.

Of course, those mechs with armor/structural quirks benefits even more since both nodes are percentage base per weight class...... And Tarogato is also coming from a unit-based perspective, people actually working together, sharing armor, focusing down a target, etc.

The other differences will be personal choice. Since the new Skill tree live, I have changed up the skill tree my regular driven mechs by approximately 20%, both from threads similar to this one and personal preferences.

I'm sorry, but I fail to understand how ECM and the radar deprivation skill points are useless. According to Tarogatos, all we need to do is improve our positioning and we won't need stupid things like ECM and radar deprivation.

If ECM and radar deprivation are useless, then so are LRMs. But guess what, approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of every 12 man team is a LRM boat. Clearly, many players do not regard LRMs as useless. Indeed, many players have become experts with LRMs, and use them very effectively. For that very reason, many players also make use of countermeasures to defend against LRMs.

ECM is also a shared skill. The umbrella from an ECM module benefits not only the player with ECM, but nearby teammates as well. How is that wasted tonnage and skill points? The game is all about teamwork, after all.
