So the past 2 days I thought about getting a Summoner, I log into the client and start to look at it.

The first thing I notice is that the 85 Kph now says 81 Kph.

Lore states the Summoner is supposed to be 86.4 Kph, but now it's just a crappier weaker version of the Hellbringer with JJ's.

Really no reason at all to pick the Summoner over the Hellbringer other than for it's JJ's now that the ability to get 90 Kph with speed tweak is gone from it.

Please tell me it's just an oversight or client glitch.

I think it has to do something with the fact that the lore speed of the mech is faster than it should be for a mech of 70 tons with a 350 engine. I think there used to be a quirk which gave it the lore speed, but that may have been changed by skill tree?

Standard lore speed in TT of all those mechs (Mad Dog, Hellbringer, Summoner, Timber Wolf)are about 85 kph.

And with Speed Tweak, that is about where you will end up. Previously they had "gifted" the Summoner with bonus speed, which for whatever reason they did away with during the engine desync. Probably typical heavy handed and wrong aimed punishment aimed at stopping those darn Poptart Summoners.

Because... Paul.

And aside from JJs.... it's pretty much always been a worse Hellbringer. Blame the Jade Falcon Engineers who mounted locked JJs and no Endo Steel.

That's all it's ever been. Even lore states that, since the Summoner is a super old clan mech.

correct me if im wrong but there is no reason lore wise the JF's add/remove JJ from an omni. this would be a pgitech issue? not to mention the superior techs of the IS can swap out internal structure but neanderthal techs of the clans cant? lol?

Which is why it needs it's 85 Kph back, JJ's and being able to get 90Kph max speed tweak was it's selling points.

The Hellbringer always casted a shadow over the Summoner, but now it will be totally eclipsed.

JJ's alone won't sell me on it.

Always thought they filled different roles anyway. Laser ECM for HBR and PPCs/SRMs for SMN.

Its a bit slower, but so is everything else.

It actually makes a lot of sense. It's not "Clan vs IS", but Battlemech Vs Omnimech.

You swap out the skeleton in a mech with all kinds of modular, off the shelf components, and those new components likely don't fit, especially since the Endo is bulkier.

It's not that it CAN'T be done, it's that it makes no sense, for the cost, expense and all that, considering the design parameters FOR Omnimechs. Heck, there is a reason they all had the same hexagonal weapon pods and such on the original 3050 Omnis.

Honestly, IS Barbarian Militaries would never replace Internal Structure that way short of a SLEP program (like House Kurita did with the Wolverine), because as a one off, it's too darn expensive and time intensive.

IS Mechs are like old hotrods, lots of customization and juryrigging, where Omnis, (including IS Omnis) are plug and play, and customization and juryrigging are not only discouraged but potentially problematic.

Never said they should. I was correcting the incorrect info for the basic assumption, not getting into the "needs it/doesn't need it" game.

it had a 5% speed tweak quirk, so mastered it went 91 pre-patch. It also had a greater torso twist and insane Acc/Dec that made it different than a Hellbringer.

All of those got nerfed with patch, so agree with OP, there really isnt a reason to take the Summoner over other CLan Heavies now

I don't disagree. I was gifted the Pride by a very generous user just around the patch, and.... it's just wanting to be used, but having maxed out Mobility and JJs on one of my SMNs for testing.... it's just not agile at all. Aside from some Poptart/Splat abuse that could have been fixed through other, smarter means (and TBH, the Splat Summoner was not THAT strong), it's always been subpar but had a niche because of it's 55 ton like mobility.

Ya I noticed that as well... and assumed it was because of the answers provided above.
Still, pretty crazy. Sh%$ getting normalized and all...
