Quickly Losing Interest In This Game.

But the game just feels so... bleh, and has been IMO going downhill for a long time.
When you get into games, where quite often, I've heard people talking about entire squads leaving the game "just" since the skilltree, and not just 5 or 6, but people saying up to 19-20 people just throwing their hands up and saying enough of this game, and moving on.
It really makes me sad.
Between the widening disconnect between PGI and their player base, many CORE unresolved issues with the game, I'm about at the point of walking away as well.
1. Hitreg. still garbage, hit and miss dartboard damage reg vs enemy targets.
2. A quickly aging engine, which needs to get updated or ported soon.
3. Weapon balance.
4. Jumpjets... not even going into detail, any Vet knows what I mean.
5. Clan vs IS balance.
Things were sitting pretty nicely just previous to the Normal skilltree nerf, and every "balance" patch since has been just dumbing down the game, or throwing things completely off track.
I dunno how much more of this I can take before I walk as well..
Just my point of view.

If people are giving up because the skill tree is overwhelmingly complicated doesn't that mean that people want a dumb game?
PGI is apparently gonna be doing a lot of balancing in the coming months, take it for what its worth... but maybe they'll get something decently right this time.

- PGI keeps reworking every map into a sniper alley, which in turn; Kills brawling entirely.
- Brawling? That some kind of taco sauce? You don't have a quadakka seven PPC/guass sniper hybrid with an LRM 150 on it, you are going to get picked off from half way across the map!
-Halfway? Clan tech will hit you clear from the very end of the map, thats not a waterfall, thats a nonstop stream of clan LRMs that won't stop for a second until you are stripped of armor or killed!
- Oh, and lets not forget the CW skirmish issue with entire teams just buttrushing the enemy teams dropship and camping it while the dropship and its pitiful weapons can't keep up with the sheer amount of enemy mechs eating the 3 laser blast it emits in defense.
That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'll be sure to add on when I think of more things I forgot to mention.

5. Clan vs IS balance.
1. Besides the occasional multiple PPC strike phasing through the enemy (only happens if I fire more than 1 at a time) I don't see this as an issue any more.
2. Yes, but it isn't going to happen. MW5 will be that port. Then this game dies (that's my bet)
3. Yeah...sigh...the never ending struggle. My Locust with 6 SL...oddly it sucks. PGI says it is competitive. Huh.
4. Buy a Night Gyr.
5. According to Chris Lowrey balance (for the last two week I guess) has never been closer thanks to the skills tree. -Que trumpets, angelic choir and the voice of mecha jesus who speaketh: "all is well sayeth the devs".
For my money, that which is causing the most discontent is the inconsistency of PGI's official commentary; not the actual state of the game but PGI's utterly misleading commentary as to what they had planned for the skills tree and then decided with no warning to simply skip.
now have 8 filthy clan mechs, due to all of PGI's assertions and defenses of the last 6 months, for their planned elimination of IS quirks; and yet for some inexplicable reason most IS mechs still have most if not all of their quirks. 6 months of PGI saying they were to be eliminated and even defending their plan of elimination so as to provide a new base line from which to balance; and my beloved Quickdraws which were to be less agile and have minimal quirks under the PTSsare better than ever. I guess gutting their quirks was their position at the time and they changed their mind due to my whining (see! PGI listens!) I just wish they would have told me that before I took them at their word.

I really wish they would spend as much time on new maps as they do new mechs. At the minimum we should be getting a new map every quarter. Even if that means the map doesn't have rocks that tumble. I'd much rather have some plain terrain and geometry with some new places to fight than a really fancy map once every few years.

i still like this skill tree overall, lots of possibilities, even for brawlers like me.
problem with maps is that even if we had dedicated brawler maps, would we see them much? no. it wouldnt be voted.
polar doesnt get voted because its a good map, its just what everyone seem to prefer. sniping or lrming.
no need for maps if pgi doesnt get rid of map voting anyway and the people WANT a change of play.
best indication that they dont is map voting, same ol same ol all day.

There is a paradox PGI has created: their stated "intent", their "value proposition" is that MWO is about teamwork....and, the skill tree does exactly the opposite by increasing "individual" survivability at the same time degrading weapons effects. This series of events is actually creating the demise of teams because you really don't need them anymore......
PGI is evolving the "battlespace" from a 3D environment; where teams must evolve to survive to, a 2D environment, where gameplay is elongated into individual engagements in a losely organized battlespace.
WHY? Because as PGI degrades existing tools, that forces the buying public to buy new mechs that give the combat power they skill tree removed or evolved.....
Was this intentional? I really don't know? I'm new and wasn't around to test the Skill Tree.... I bought Night Gyr's and mastered them the old way. They were fun to play and a very dynamic and flexible platform. Now, with only 91 skill points, I have only been able to get 80% of what the skill tree took away.... Shadows of what they were and yet, as above, some see the Gyr's as something else..... We all aren't the same.......
So, the real question is: WHY? Where is PGI taking us and for what reasons? I've written several emails and asked specific questions and haven't received any specific answers..... Only generalities and rote responses.
Why are people leaving? Because there are "other" games that the grind itself is "fun!"
This is only my opinion and I don't have hard data; it's only what I hear, observe and feel.... I could be completely wrong.
But, my pilot skill rating is actually going left......and, there's nothing I can do if there aren't any teams in PUG matches nor anyway to influence PUG players who are benefiting from the skill tree changes....... Again, the paradox above in real-time....

HPG, mining collective, Viridian bog, and the one with the tunnel happen all the time and all offer plenty of brawling

HPG and Mining show up less often because they don't support the terrible new game modes
So, you see more bad, and as a result have fewer opportunities to see the few remaining good maps

HPG is an overall map with sniping, lrming and running up the walls.
mining collective has sniperspots everywhere on top of buildings and long shooting alleys.
bog often ends up beeing a standoff on the hills. if you wanna brawl on those maps you really have to go all in everytime or completely hide like a douche.
compared to what old frozen city or even the old forest colony was that aint brawling dedicated. not to mention that all those maps literally all are nascar maps whereas that wasnt even possible on the old forest colony.
heck even crimson strait or river city are usually med-long range battles and go over to some reckless brawling way later in the battles.

If they did smaller patches more often, tweaking things a little bit at a time, they'd have a better chance of getting balance right. But they ridiculously insist on only one patch a month, and they always change things too much one way or the other. There's no middle ground. No iterative and incremental changes.

If by buffing LRMs you mean nerfing Radar Derp by splitting it into several separate skills, then yes. LRMs as a whole have not changed from how bad they were before, they just made one of the counters to LRMs considerably worse than it was before.

AMS is 0.5 ton and another 0.5 ton for ammo. Maybe if you blunder out into the open you'll die to LRMs.
