I am looking for the best assault mech for brawling after the latest patch and I want to know your personal choice.
Much love,

If you have one, the scorch is a nightmare. 2 LBX20 and a crapload of SRM's. There's a sense of palpable dread when there's one getting around on the battlefield - reminds me of the old days when boom Yagers lurked behind hills and drove people to pen barely coherent rants on the forums. It's extremely ineffective at range, but in close, if it's prepared and not running too hot, there's nothing it can't delete with a few nonchalant mouse clicks.
Then there's the Atlas. Grab either the DDC for ECM, or the S for Survivability, load up with an AC20 and SRM's, and go to town. Slowly. Confused old person slowly.

But still, other assaults are probably better and tankier. (many good ones around cyclops/atlas/gargoyle)

Orion's not an assault though. Technically they are 75 Ton heavies

Two LB-X 20 to unleash as they gaze in awe at you.

I feel like that's all 100 tonners... lol
Also, the Highlander IIC can handle the exact same builds as the orion while being slightly slower and having a ton more armor. Same with the cyclops.

Well he said brawling so thats what I went for. They pilot like a slightly faster pocket atlas. lol
I had an orion for like two years before I got tired of it and sold it.

The Cyclops is a pretty badass platform, but with armor quirks the Onion is actually (reasonably) tanky, and skill tree armor quirks increase it even further, though the HGN gets a lot more structure.
The Onion is also far faster and more maneuverable - 78kph vs 58kph for the HGN (you can get the Onion to 83 or so with speed tweak). I find that even with it's garbage hitboxes, the Onion survives a little better with the extra agility.
Although the HGN certainly looks better. IMHO, the OnionIIC is one of the ugliest mechs in the game.

Otherwise, AS7-S, and CP-10-Q with the obvious build or Sleipnir with quad LBX are the most legit IS mechs. Boiler with double LB20X and 3 ASRM6 is also strong. CP-11-A and CP-11-A-DC are my honorable mentions built around a dual LBX or AC20 + SRM6 wombo combo for a braindead two-button build. As brawlers, all of these are behind the above for being slow and risking being left behind or caught in the open on common maps like Polar Highlands and Grim Plexus.
Quad LBX Sleipnir, Scorch/Boiler, and SPL Garg are probably the easiest of these to play.
I'd pick the Sleipnir just because in addition to crit seeking, good agility and hitboxes, and immense damage output (~18dps) it's also able to project damage out to 500m+. Pure brawling isn't particularly strong right now because the only consistent brawl map that gets voted for is HPG Manifold.
If you want the free version buy a Mauler MAL-1R or -1P. You'll gain a slightly higher rate of fire (making it just high enough to be able to chain fire perfectly in sync with full CD skill tree for autocannon earthquake), but much worse agility characteristics and no CT structure quirk.

Best for brawling however, not so much but I love them both lol. Boiler - 2 UAC/10, 3 SPL, 3 SRM4.
King Crab's, KGC-0000 I believe is the 2 B, 4 E, 4 M version I run 2 LB10X, 2 ER LL, 3 SRM4. The lasers can be swapped for small pulse or medium for more brawling and heat efficiency, I just have the ER LLs for long range poking until the brawling can begin.
KGC-000 I think is the Quad Ballistic one, 4 UAC5 3 ML for some mid-range poking and backup after ammo runs out (or arms taken off)
I don't yet have any of the other assaults but the Direwolf, Kodiak, Marauder IIC are all quite dangerous but not really the best brawlers. Clan runs very hot with sustained fire. Example, the Supernova-Boiler is more of a surprise brawler, pop in, guns blazing then retreat to some cover if possible.
Personal opinion, I don't care that the DW, Kodi, and MaraIIC have better firepower than the KGC and SNV, I just love those two mechs

I also like the Vic with AC20, 2xMPLs and 3xSRm4+A
Atlas S is good, if you can close the gap
