I know how to edit the actionmaps.xml file and change mappings that aren't in the menu normally, but the "joy_torso_rotate_yaw" and "joy_torso_rotate_pitch" require an analog axis for input.
So, while I am aware that I am sacrificing the finer control of analog aiming, I need a way to map the torso twisting to IJKL so I can play purely on my keyboard.
Does anyone know what I need to do to make this happen?

With a touch pad you will only make gameplay a frustrating experience both for yourself and everyone else on your team

wired, wireless, whatever. But you have 2-3 fire groups with most mechs and you wanna be able to use zoom as well (wheel or something)

Under normal circumstances, I would just wait until I got back. But with the Summer Blast Challenge thing going on, I don't want to miss a day.
I'm confident I can make it work with IJKL, that's how I play most shooters on this computer, but I need to be able to map it.

not counting the scroll wheel button, thats unusable as a weapons group trigger unless something skill-less like lerms or streaks. its bound to group 3 but i never use that group.
4 solid buttons are actually hard to come by, as if adding a 2 cent button to your mouse design automatically adds $10 to the final price (it shouldn't but it does). i got this chinese wireless mouse that works pretty god dispite needing a kewswitch transplant roughtly every 4 months, and the rotory encoder on the scroll wheel is starting to go. but it gets good battery life. a lot of mice have extra buttons but they dont show up as buttons. logitech has this issue, where you got to install their bloatware to map them and most games ignore that they exist.
also not very many mice between not enough buttons and omg too many buttons. the bit of lostech where you had 2 right side buttons a single left side button and the scroll wheel + button in between, then two side buttons for a total of 6. makes me want to design my own mouse from scratch.

My CoolerMaster Storm Recon has been my long time fav because this...
I dont need 65 buttons, but i need more then 2. This one has 6 and they are nice and big, 2 on each side, 2 normal ones and the scroll wheel.
Sadly they dont make it anymore to my knowledge...

I have an old dell laser mouse, that I've had for like 15 years and it still works.
Meanwhile my gaming MMO mouse (I actually play FF XIV and DDO, and the buttons help in RPGS and Warframe) an an overactive, finicky sensor that makes it impossible to aim with.
Suffice it to say I'm sticking with 2 weapon groups, but still being able to aim.

Get AutoHotKey and macro away!
Otherwise, get a Logitech Wireless M570 Trackball. It's got 5 buttons and a scroll wheel.
Better yet, also get a Logitech G13 Gameboard for the left hand.
Mice are so 20th Century.

good layout. mine is similar but only has 5 buttons and one is the scroll wheel, and its wireless. wireless is important for me because i have a cat that likes to chew wires. no mouse is safe.

It has a sniper button, and two DPI selectors, but I haven't found a way to unbind them if from being a DPI shifters. Middle click is bound to two stage zoom, the rest are bound to 4 weapon groups.
