The AC and LBX debate/debacle aside, what matters here is the functionality of the weapons for the purposes of the game, as both single slug ACs, LBXs and burst fire ACs are fun in their own ways, so with that in mind, and Ignoring the clan/IS divide for a moment (some of these may be IS only etc who knows, not me);
  • (Standard) AC; The baseline AC weapon, fires in short burst, is the lightest of all the ACs for all its different slug variations.
  • SSAC; As the single slug AC, weighing a bit more than the base AC and having some other factors around its balance, such as lower ammunition per ton, more heat etc.
  • LBX; As the same weight/size as standard burstfire ACs, the balance between the two is basically fine with one as stream and one as spread.
  • UAC; Fires in longer bursts than the standard (1.5 damage rate to standard is enough IMO), has that cursed jam chance, and other balance factors like extra crit space/tonnage etc.
So there, utilise all of the potential mechanics for the AC in four different weapons, all balanced out in their own ways against eachother and the baseline AC.

Thoughts/comments?

"Weapon variants."

We won't get this.

Such being said, if we got the IS Light AC/2 and Light AC/5, I guarantee they will be burst fire.
I wouldn't be surprised if the IS UACs become burst fire.

This said, the RACs are going to be oversized miniguns with a weapon heat mechanic, where the weapon's cooldown bar fills up and as it does the jam risks get higher and higher until it happens. Or potentially you can fire until you get near the end and then it jams.
So there is that.
