I hardly think that one question can infer enough about the state of my panties.

It seemed logical to me, given your use of "WTF?" in the title and the "Who thought that was a good idea?" question. Any other time those sort of questions come up, there's usually a lot of panty twisting involved.

Many TT stock loadouts make a lot of design decisions that are not good ideas, other than a few lucky mechs that are razor-optimized out of the box like the Mad Cat or Hellstar.

So I am a little more critical of mech load outs and do a little more research before I buy.

You can hate me for that I guess.

Let's be fair (and a little less melodramatic): if you had done any research this thread would not exist. The reason for the stock load-out is lore, plain and easy. No reason for "WTF" at all.

If you want to know more about the lore or how to use this one in MWO, which are legit questions obviously, you may want to rephrase the OP.
Simply put, it is a point defense unit, that point preferably being in some city. I doubt it will be any different in MWO. Probably we have an area denial Mech at our hands, potent in a brawl, but deficient in long range combat due to the low mounted weaponry (it will suffer as much as the Black Knight if not more).
Since we lack dense city maps I don't think the Annihilator is going to be good in game, however quirks may easily turn it into a meta-Mech. But then, you should never hope for quirks.

I could not recommend the Annihilator even if I wanted to. And I don't want to in the first place, because this Mech stole the spot of far more deserving assault Mechs. A FCCW-update spearheaded by a Mech that was not even part of the FCCW - that's still a bad joke.

It is a mech you use in the Defense of FP ... like the Direwolf.

Why does the stock load out come with a STD200 engine? Who thought that was a good idea?

Because it is an A2/AD unit (Area Denial) it's not meant to be quick, it's meant to pack a ton of fire power. As to the load out, well TT stats....

As to MWO performance, I'm not inspired by it... Likely to have low twist speed, low twist angle, low pitch angle, low acceleration and deceleration. This coupled with a large distance between head and weapon mounts are going to make it weak in hill hump and side poke, due to having to expose large sections of the mech before it can return fire. She's not the IS version of the Kodiak, she's the IS version of a Dire Wolf. As to the MW3 version of the Annihilator, weill it could have upto a 400 series engine, in 100 point steps.

You missed counting crit spots, It can only do 2 ac 20's, The arms don't have the room :/

you could do 2 ac20 2 gauss but your going to be short on ammo and armor

The only Annihilator that can mount AC/20 in the arms is the (non-canon) ANH-1P. And this variant lacks torso mounted ballistics. All the other Annihilator variants sport lower actuators, which means AC/20s are limited to the torso.

So no, you will not be able to have four AC/20. It would not make sense anyway. The sheer weight and size of those weapons forces the use of a small engine, STD structure and STD armour, and still does not leave you space for DHS. That in turn means you would have to use a mere ten SHS to cool four AC/20. ...and you are low on ammo. But that does not matter anymore; you overheat immediately.

I forgot the bloody shoulder slot...
I'm sad now. Will probably just do 2 20's and 2 10's I suppose.

Maybe PGI will make IS lbx20s one slot smaller than the ac20... Who knows.

Well you could do 2 ac20 2 Uac 10's its almost the same fire power as 4 ac 20's.

Personally im looking at 2 Ac20 or 1 LBX 20 and 1 Ultra 20 and 2 Rac 5's Im worried about enough ammo and armor but im to lazy to do the ath about that now. I'll wait till the new weapons are here and then decide.

You're missing the point.

It's maximum BOOM. Speed, armor, etc don't matter. 2 tons of ammo is plenty because you're not living long.

Chain fire 80 pts in 1.5 seconds on some poor *******? Priceless. Can do it twice via chainfire. More than a laservomit build.

Otherwise it's all about the RACs. I may do 4xac10s too.

The Nightstar is probably proof that PGI did not reduce the crit space of the LB-20X: The NSR-9SS does have a LB-20X in one arm (thanks to crit splitting) and an UAC/20 in the other. But we got a PGI-made variant called NSR-9S based on the -9SS, just with two UAC/20.
If they had reduced the crits of the LB-20X (or introduced crit splitting), we could have had the canon NSR-9SS.

I'd say the only Mech that would go boom is the one attempting quad AC/20. It's a moot point anyway since noone can do it.
But if this thread is any indication, we are going to see many so-called "fun"-builds. (which are usually fun for the opponent, and never fun for the teammates.)

Lemme see if i can code this right...
Annihilator ANH-0X

Mass: 100 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Age of War/Star League
Tech Rating/Era Availability: D/D-E-D

Special Abilities: SRCH, ES, SOA, AC 3/3/0

Now for TT, dropping the upper arm actuators, the AC20 can be placed in the arms. Now knowing PGI, this wont happen so the AC20s in the arms will not fly. But lets say they did. With the standard 200 rated engine along with standard heat sinks and only 4 tons of ammo. Youre pretty much dead before you fire the first shot.

I was thinking either twin LB20s and twin Ultra/Standard 10s or twin LB10x and twin AC20s.

Actually, giving the Annihilator high agility/mobility for its size would make it far more viable.

It'll be a low-tier powerhouse, in my opinion; Big, imposing, and mounting a decent firepower count makes for a powerful threat. And the hero'll be relegated to either SRM/MRM+ML zombie brawlers or... Ugh, LRM builds, but the latter's still somehow decent in lower tiers. But buffing the agility to a level above other 100 tonners will make up for the weakness of speed.

Granted, I'm in favor in buffing 100-tonner agility across the board. But the Annihilator might need higher.
