I think the game benefited from an increased TTK.

With the survival tree and a shift to more focused and specialized mechs (e.g survival vs firepower) sustained fire with good heat will come at a price. You will lack armor and structure and are significantly less effective in a brawl or simply cannot take as much dmd.

Ppc buiilds were pretty effective before the skill tree.

After the skill tree eg the clan erppc was still good but it takes a considerable focus on firepower and heat and even with that it will take much, much more time to bring down a heavy or assault mech that went deep into the survival tree.

Try to take out a king crap or Kodiak or direwolf with 2 cerppcs or Is ppcs and erppcs.

It takes a long time. even if you hit with every shot right where you want to, firing as often as your heat allows. Nonstop.

They can easily shrug it off.

Before this ppc patch i could fire nonstop and with max heat and almost maxed operations tree I still get good dmg games, kill a few mechs. The performance was reduced a lot and the mech is much more squishy then before the skill tree.

But it was (or is till this evening) still pretty good. About 30 to 40 % less effective.

The coming patch will change all that though.

I can easily get double the dmg with gauss or double gauss builds (Night Gyr) and have basically almost completly ignored firepower or operations skill tree. I have 8 points in firepower I think. Thats it.

And easily get 800 to 1200 games frequently.

The gauss by not is a vastly superior sniping weapon. The cerppc especially simply lacks dmg and versatility compared to gauss. Not only that....my Night Gyr has a maxed survival and almost maxed mobility tree. But still easily doubles the dmg then my cerppc builds.

Im not saying that a nerf to cerppcs is bad, but the way you handle all of this simply creates new most effective builds and kills diversity.

I will still play my ppc buidls simply because I like the playstyle and sniping is fun. Ppcs look cool and you can do some dmg.

But after this patch gauss is basically 2 or 3 times as effective than ppc as a sniper weapon. Because you dont really need firepower or heat for those builds.

Before skill tree it was difficult but with good aim you could sometimes even take out lights or damaged mediums when they caught you. You would die a lot too, as that isnt a brawling weapon.

After the skill tree even lights are much harder to kill. Cerppc has become vastly inferior to gauss. Forces you to completly neglect survival if you want to come anywhere near the dmg output a gauss build will give you while also making your mech much, much weaker as you cannot go into surival tree. And if you do, your dmg output will be even worse.

As a fan of sniper weapons there is only gauss left now.

It will narrow the number of effective sniper builds.

I feel after skill tree ppcs were in a good spot. They were moderatly less effective.

Now....they will be weak.

If you change the effectiveness of weapon system in such a dramatic way, then ppl will prolly not really use them anymore.

Back in the days large pulse lasers were so bad, that you would never see them ingame. Nobody ever used them. Way too hot, not effective.

Thats whats gonna happen with cerppcs now.

I would have rather seen you increase IS ppc and erppc dmg. Give it a buff so they do superior pinpoint damage and cerppcs have splash.

What you do has simply narrowed the number of effective builds.

You could reduce gauss dps by 30 % and it would still easily be a lot more effective than the cerppc. Cerppc has become that bad. The difference is huge.

So why would anybody still go deep into the firepower and operations tree, play a squishy glass cannon that still gets easily and heavily outdamaged by configurations that didnt even invest at all into firepower?

That just doesnt make any sense.

I get that ppl whined about too much sniping and all that.

But after skill tree sniping was heavily nerfed by survival tree and the resulting costs of no survival points. By now I immediatly know which mech did and wich mech didnt go into survival tree.

Mechs that did go into survival tree can take a beating. If you didnt use those suvival points....you actually do have to play smarter, have to be much more careful and you simply cannot take any dmg. Even in a medium.

I think you havent thought those changes through.

Ppl that play competitively will have no reason to go for cerppcs anymore. If I played in a tournament and I wanne win, Id avoid cerppcs entirely and use gauss only as sniping weapons as the clan large laser is too much of a risk. Burn time is too long.

Im not saying im against balancing clan and IS.

Not at all.

If it was up to me id completly neglected this stupid hysterical demand for lore and more lore and then some more, eventhough it meant that balance gets completly demolished like it is in mwo.

In some instances id focus primarily on fun gameplay. id never have given one side xl engines that are vastly, majorily weaker than the other side. Thats just.....weird.

By all means....make IS mechs competitive. I almost never play them cause they are simply gimped in multiple ways.

So this is not a silly clan weapons got nerfed now IS is superior threat.

But what pgi continuously does is to again and again force players into specific meta builds. I mean...there werent many sniper builds to begin with. ppcs, erppcs, cerppcs and IS ERLLs. Clan erlls are simply bad. Good players I see and know basically never use them because the face time will kill you against good opposition. Its too risky. Even though I love lasers.

On the clan side there isnt much left. CERLLs are bad. Like super bad. Cerppcs will be heavily nerfed after this patch. Sure, ppl like me that just like the look and sound of ppcs will still use them but they are nowhere near the potential gauss has.

Ill swith to a mix of gauss and lasers as an alternative and heavily invest into survival instead of firepower fore more effective, mobile snipers in medium mechs after this patch. For games where I wanne play effectivly and not just for the sheer joy of firing ppcs.

But ive been playing this game for years. Trust me....this change isnt good. You have turned gauss into the one and only weapon for long range direct fire which is vastly superior especailly because you can also use survival tree and almost completly neglect firepower.

Thats not good balance.

And if you reduce gauss dmg (for IS as well as for Clan) significantly to bring it down to ppc levels then sniping will basically be not an effective playstyle anymore.

I also always found it ridiculous that IS has to use 3 tons heavier gauss. Lore eh?

Id never have gone for such an imbalance. Stuipid lore again.

All of those decisions constantly and after each change reduce the amount of viable options.

... people get nuts because of this?
Reaction time is 250ms for most - so when you fire and nothing happen and you click again you shot will be fired.... its a theoretical balance thing -that happens when you base your balance on data. It just looks better in the spread sheet but does hardly anything to the game balance.

And this will affect your mechs how?

Because even a Kodiak with 35 DHS on Frozen City will eventually overheat if you try to fire 2xERPPC every 4 seconds.

PGI could change the C-ERPPC cooldown to 5 seconds and it would not affect the overall DPS of mech using C-ERPPC.

In fact, if your mech has 25 C-DHS and 2 C-ERPPC , and you put all the skill point into heat gen and cool run, you are able to fire the 2xCERPPC every 5,3 seconds.

OP complains about one of smallest nerf that had graced the CERPPC, which is laughable. It will not affect CERPPC boating builds cause they run hot anyway and need time to cool off anyway. Use the weapons as it is intended and you will hardly notice ant difference. In fact OP should play several games post patch before he cries the sky is falling.

It won't even affect Gauss/PPC builds because gauss takes longer than 4.5 seconds.

With my 4 ER PPC Warhawk I can fire them 8 times and I'm at max heat.
