The game is in a state of flux right now with a lot of changes hitting in quick succession after a long period of stagnation. I like the changes but I am taking time off from playing and waiting for them all to be implemented before I start playing much again.

This should not be the reason you play...what you are describing is a job. You should play because you are having fun. I wish I received more for what I play, but I don't play to get stuff.

What is your definition of fun ? Mindlessly killing mechs does not keep me entertained indefinitely. A sense of progression and accomplishment with feelings of achievement are what i consider to be fun.

I'll just link something I just posted in another thread since I think it is appropriate :)

I think it basically comes down to "fatigue" with playing the game ... sometimes folks just need a break.

I've re-specced all my 3 mechs a few times, now the shine and polish has come off... I dont mind the skill tree but im not really enjoying it either, its something i can live with or without. But the overall "gameplay improvements" that this whole reballance, decoupling, higher ttk and so on should have brought is something i dont see, actually as far as actual gameplay, shooting, moving and so on was alot better before the skill tree patch.

Have considered dropping the game but found new ways to keep it at an acceptable entertainment level, im worried that the energy weapons overhaul (which effect all my 3 mechs significantly) squeeze out the last bit of fun im getting out of mwo...

lets see if this was all for the better as far as im concerned.

Skill tree is just their way of getting more money for a game that has less and less players as times passes. From their point, it is ok, and we can do nothing. Frankly, I am interested of a new player's opinion, if there are any. Do they think it is grind or not. Admittedly, my game has improved, but I don't know if that's because I am getting good in elited mech, or other's are bad.

Pretty darn cynical of you. I am not sure how it can change their revenue stream. In fact it is a change that more than likely cost them quite a bit in development to create with no direct way it will add money to their pockets.

It addresses a pet issue of mine that the old skill system was too cookie cutter. All Mechs got the same skill bonuses no matter how they were configured. This changes all of that considerably.
If you want to focus missiles, laser or ballistics for a specific chassis, you choose.
It is pretty new, and for sure it needs some work, but a great first step.

That being said, if you were a fill in the box mech leveling junkie (I am one), than a bit of that accomplishment is gone as there is no longer a simple fill in all the boxes and you are done. The open endedness of the new system can be a little hard on some, but still it is a step in the right direction.

Well am a relatively new player (only started end of last year), but much prefer the new skill tree system to the old one-size-fits-all mastery system. Tbh I was losing interest before the skill tree arrived.
Like the fact that you don't have to buy 3 variants of the same mech and then grind all of them just to master the one variant you originally wanted.
Like the fact that you get to make meaningful choices as to which areas of the tree to focus on and that there is usually a tradeoff involved - also like the way you can adjust your node selection without having to completely respec - allows easy adjustments for new loadouts or just for experimentation.
From the perspective of 'convenience', also like the fact that I no longer have to go into the mechlab to unequip/equip shared modules every time I switch mechs.
