But I'm not sure about if the new lvlin system via skill tree is more expensive than the old 3 chassis way was or not, never did the math on that.

Didn't get a screenshot, but I remember I got 459 damage, 1 kill and 4 assists (Solo'd a Kodiak who was alone).

This just kind of makes you sound like a selfish person and less that PGI is in the wrong, and the entire premise of your OP is wrong if you're going with all losses.

Short term the skill tree is less expensive. Long term (40+ mechs, hundreds to thousands of hours) the previous system is less expensive. The previous system was such a hurdle for the short term, newer players couldn't even start to take advantage of it until far down the line when they've already been facing full mastery mechs loaded with modules for a long time.

Also, take into account grinding 3 mechs under the old system...I no longer have the exact xp requirements for the old system but iirc the "elite" unlock alone for one mech was 21,500xp ...its what 800xp now for 1sp? So for that unlock you're looking at an equivalent of 80sp if you "elited" 3 chassis'...thats not counting the xp required to unlock the basic, and master tiers under the old system across 3 mechs.
That right there tells you that the investment in time for "eliting" a mech costs less time than the previous system.
EDIT: ok so under the old system it was:
14,250xp basic
21,500xp elite
21,500xp master
So under the old system, at the bear min, if you wanted to fully master a single mech, and leave the rest unfinished:
14,250 * 3 = 42750: unlocking of 3 chassis' basic tier
21,500 * 3 = 64500: unlocking of 3 chassis' elite tier
21,500 * 1 = 21,500/64500: unlocking of 1 chassis' master tier/ 3 chassis master tier
Summed up thats 128,750xp to full master one mech under the old system, as opposed to 72,800xp under the ST.
171,750xp to master all 3 under the old system, and 218,400 to master all 3 under ST.
So for single mech mastery its cheaper under ST, but much more expensive to master all 3 under ST.
cbills I don't account for because you basically always have cbills available to buy skill points.

Yes, it does, I'm not gong to deny that at all, but why would they encourage that? I'm only doing it for the Cbills. I would enjoy the game so much more if I could just go out and shoot things rather than do stuff like that and get at least equally rewarded for doing so.
Why are you trying to defend PGI for letting me compromise my team for cbills though .-.

But to level that same Kodiak you want you would have had to buy 3 of them to get competitive under the old system. Factor that into your cost analysis and then see if you are worse off now in trying to level up a competitive Assault Mech.

Was going to say this. With Premium I usually get between 200-400k with most of my light mechs which would be 150-300k without premium, though I am not a new player still learning the ropes. If the OP had a good game and hit 99k, I would guess he is free player.
If the OP is indeed a free player, then my advice is to stop being a free player and invest in the game by getting a premium account. I mean I understand that technically the game is free-to-play but you can't exactly except to have rapid progression if your not going to put anything into it. A hero mech would be a great idea too, especially since so many are available for so cheap right now. $10 gets you a Grinner which ships today which is a pretty damn good light mech even if you don't immediately have the C-bills to upgrade it. $15 gets you Ghille which looks like a decent medium and $20 gets you a Grasshopper which from personal experience are pretty decent mechs.

I am sorry, you are looking at it backward.
It is not I have to play 250 matches to get an Assault.

Depends on the exact mech, but in almost every case leveling the skill tree once (at near 4 million cbills) is cheaper than purchasing two other mechs of the same chassis. And that is not even taking into account the cost of modules, which sends it way over on the side of pre skill tree. Them things were expensive as, in some cases more than leveling an entire skill tree for 1.

I don't want to have to play the exact same mech every single game for $15 whilst also paying ~$10 for premium time when I can pay for many complete games for that price. I like MWO, I paid a few £ for some mech bays which I'm fine with paying for, but when I have to pay subscription and then pay even more money to limit myself to playing one mech and having to pay for it, just so I can grind a decent amount of cbills is when I get pissed at the lack of progression for f2p.

On the topic of Skill Tree vs. Rule of Three, getting 91 Skillpoints costs 4,095,000 C-Bills. Depends on whether you want to play all three variants of a given 'Mech, of course, but that's significantly cheaper than buying, say, a second OnmiMech that runs the same builds anyway...
/edit:
Also, with the even going, you can easily farm up a good chunk of additional C-Bills every day.

C-bill grind is still very much alive. The event rewards help take some of the edge off the grind though. F2P game. Want less grind, get premium time, buy hero, pay not to grind as much. Or don't, work for what you want.
