(I am old I got stories)

FP reminds me of my High School football days
seems the local military base kids where talking smack at the skating ring and in the halls of our school

we where a big high school with like 4000 thousand, most where from military families
since this was a big military town

anyways a challenge game was setup and the JV (junior varsity) team would play the local
base team

we pulled some juniors from the varsity team but no player was above junior
we went to the base and kicked the ever loving carp out of the Jets 85 to 0

worst stomp I have ever been a part of (until FP anyways)
I don't know when that base stopped having a team but I bet its been many many years
since they had a football team

ok what's the point
FP is a bad game mode just like the base team playing the local power house team was a bad idea

there is no point blaming each other
you might be on the super duper side or you might be a seal its still a bad game mode
don't rail on each other about it just do the best you can

i dont like the us vs them mentality that pgi seems to foster between pugs and units. i think its to distract us from the trainwreck that is faction play. i do well enough pugging the mode, i cant control what other players do short of joining a unit with standards. but i do this for fun so i dont care if we win or loose, only how well i did.

Then QP derp queue is perfect for you. Everyone is a solo rambo, no teamwork, no communication, everyone is armchair tactician, and lossess are everyone elses fault.

The whole game is PUG ARMOR ONLINE.
The only difference is in FP, the same kids will use you as pug armor 4 times instead of 1. In QP, you can atleast leave the game and join another quickly. In FP, you stay long enough to see the pattern.

Plenty of armchair tacticians in my matches over the weekend. People tying up the VOIP are the ones with the lowest scores on the team at the end of the match. Even if by some miracle the loudest on VOIP actually makes good calls the phrase "herding cats" still applies to PUG teams.

Choices are really:
1) Drop with a regular group big enough and skilled enough to hold their own
2) Learn to enjoy the lemons you will be given in Faction play.

As the original poster mentioned, be nice to your teamates. Maybe since they can't launch another FP match till the current one is done some will choose to stay, watch and learn. Fun fact, Willie Mays got 1 hit out of his first 26 at-bats in major league baseball.

no its not. fp is by far superior to qp. the qp potatoes just haven't gotten gud enough to see it yet. while fp is a trainwreck, qp on the other hand is just that minimally viable product that never went beyond that stage of development. its more like a kitten that just figured out how glass works.

silentscreamer, I find the one that calls the drop usually gets a bit of a lower damage score compared to the other pers because the drop caller is busy working out the tactics and keeping the rest of the team focussed rather than piloting his mech. Obviously each DC is a bit different but when I DC that is what I normally find....or maybe I am just looking for an excuse for a low score..I don't know. I honestly do not bother DCing anymore in FW since most people do not listen anyways. But since I mostly pug in FW that is what one should expect so I do not get mad about it anymore.
cheers!

Ya typically Callers get lower scores. They are doing more than you that isnt calling therefore aren't 100% focused on their own mech since they are focused on every mech. You shouldnt **** talk someone that is atleast trying to call if you or someone else isnt going to call. If they make a bad call get on comms and add information as to why that is bad. Pugs that take to comms to try and call when no one else is are a blessing to the game and atleast give the other pugs a fighting chance.

Those guys should first drop in a group and learn the tactics of the maps.

I've got several people trying to "call" shots that are just utter nonsense.
They are not a blessing, they are trying to do something they do not have the qualification to.

When someone asks for directions i (normally) have no problem helping. But when someone inexperienced tries to call some strategies, the also inexperienced pugs get far worse off. Especially since they learn the wrong thing.

BTW if your score is far worse off then one shouldn't call shots. It's as easy as that.

That's sadly true. When I call for pugs I first have to show them that I am better than them. Before that they won't listen to me, even though they have no idea about the tactics of the mode and the map, but they are still not listening.^^

I am a habitual drop caller, in unit drops, dropping with 3-5 friends and even when I am dropping alone. It definitely does take something away from my personal gameplay to spend time making calls, placing marks on the BattleGrid and often juggling VOIP and TS conversations at the same time.

But I find that my win rate is much, MUCH higher when I call, even though my match scores tend to be a little lower. It's not because I am some amazing drop caller, because I certainly am not.

I think it's because:
  • I do at least understand how each game mode works and the objectives (you would be surprised by how many players don't, especially during an event)
  • I do have experience with leading on all of the maps (especially the Siege maps)
  • I am capable of communicating instructions with at least enough clarity (between VOIP and the battlegrid indicators) that most pilots can understand roughly what I need from them

If you have at least those items listed above and you find yourself in a match and nobody has stepped up to call, I strongly encourage you to give it a shot.

And for those that criticize a call without being willing to step up and call the drop on their own, I would like to ask you to offer your input in the form of a suggestion rather than directly countermanding the orders of whoever volunteered to lead.

After all, 12 pilots in the wrong place together is a lot better than 12 pilots scattered all over the map getting consumed by the enemy deathball.

That's my $.02.

Regards,

Xann
