ac20, uac20, lb20x and heavy gauss(and hag 30/40) dont have tabletop rule which allows it to split crits between 2 nearby locations though this locks its firing arc to the worse of the 2.

For example in tt kgc splits its ac20 crits with side torsos and because of that it cant turn its arms.

Bingo, you got it in one.

You'll notice that all IS LB's have better range profiles than normal AC/s with the ability to use dual ammo types, the LB-10X rendered the AC/10 dead, to not do that to all other models they had to do something, that something came in two forms:

1) ballooned crit sizes to hard limit how many one could actually have.

2) Specialty ammo for normal AC/s that are mostly lackluster, but can be amusing... (C3 4xAC/2 with AP ammo Mauler parked on a hill being one of my favorites)

Well, dhs rendered all ballistics weapons as glorified crit ******* which they later tried to amend with experimental ammo and having things like ac10 capable of critting through armor or building heat.

ppc 10 damage 10 heat 7 tons 3 crits
to negate that you need 5 dhs, so 12 tons and 18 crits ofc ignoring 10 dhs in engine

ac10 10 damage 3 heat 12 tons 7 crits
so you need weapon 12 + 2 dhs 2 + 1 ammo per 10 turns 1 = 15 tons total
and it will take 7 + 6+ 1 = 14 crits

tradeoff of 4 crits for 3 tons, thats ofc ignoring superior range of ppc and 10 "free" dhs.
