ive been running those tweaked energy weapons. was kind of disapointed that it didnt cover the snub, which i feel is a little hot for its range. energy weapons dont feel like the complete overhaul that my ballistics tests had, instead we get marginal hardly noticeable differences.

lppc - dont think i ever had an issue with this one on the first go round. it just felt like a smaller ppc that will fit well on many a light mech. these changes really didnt affect the weapon performance, its somewhat easier to boat them now, and its easier to crit. i ran it in the 'mini gauss+ppc meta' on a cat-k2 and it ran well. no kills and the damage numbers were terrible though. it just highlights it as a kiddie ppc. nothing new here, moving along.

hppc - better, much better. but it still feels weak for its price. it runs cooler. i ran it on an awesome at first and had a terrible game. blaming this on the chassis instead of the weapon, i traded up for a battlemaster. pair of hppc and a pair of snppc for short range fighting. it did much better. got 2 kills and damage numbers in the 500s. split the difference and its a modest imrprovement. the exponential falloff mechanic helped short range combat, but the snubs did a better job at close range fighting. i guess its good in a pinch but i wouldnt rely on it. also have doubts that the 4v4 format is a good test, this feels more like a firing line weapon to me.

hsl - i dont know what the niche is for this weapon, it kind of fills the void left by the now nerfed spl for the cost of a micro sl. i boated 8 on a hunch iic-a, firing in groups of four they never overheated. granted i was running 20 dhs, max engine, and a mk vii targeting computer to fill out the build. i cant say it was very leathal. yesterday's run of a viper with hsl and hmgs it was a pretty sweet little knife fighter.

hml - my new favorite heavy laser. i tested 4 along with a pair of hlls on an ecm hellbringer. the 40 point alpha at a cost of only 4 tons was a nice little supprise for my enemies. this would be a great build for a light and might also replace the pulses for the backstab role. if only the duration wasnt so long. still its a great bang for your buck loadout, and i think i might use this as my new favorite complementary backup weapon for missile and ballistic builds. running 8 on a garbles or exe would be a nice little 80 point 1-2 punch.

hll - while my hellbringer left little doubt that the hml was great, it still left me skeptical about the hll. fortunately the hellbringer wasnt the only mech i decked out thusly. i also ran a timby with a 3/4 split between hml and hll. because the ranged nature of that drop i relied more on the hll. its still very hot for what it does. it cements the fact that ghost heat should be avoided at all costs with the heavy laser line. firing all 3 filled up my bar. so i split it into 2 groups, and put the dual group in chain fire. this helped, but im not sure why i would want to take this over the lpl. maybe if i was strapped for tonnage but thats about it. i could save 2 slots run an erll and have space for a spare heatsink. i kind of think the hll needs to be king of damage per tick of all lasers in the game. damage/duration of around 12 or even 13 would cement it as the best surgical scalpel in the game. overall dps should suffer, but thats what the lpl is for.

lams - i put this here because its technically an energy weapon. less heat is good, but i dont know why it has to still be more than the spl its based on. its supposed to also be a down tuned spl, since missiles dont have battlemech armor between its casing and its explodey goodness inside, much less power is needed to do this that the fully powered spl. id say bring it down to its spl level but stick it in the spl gh group. that way if you run it with a rack of spls, it counts.

I would suggest pairing the HLL with the ERML rather than the HML; better synchronization of range makes it fill the role better. HML are too close.
