I've been getting FPS dips alot too.. started after the Skill Tree patch..

Although I almost always have firefox in the background since I browse the web while waiting for matches to start..

But it didn't used to happen before the aforementioned patch..

PGI has actually said the recent framerate drops and disconnects were not their fault, they could not find and fault in the servers and that we should check with our ISP's..

ALL OF US, no matter which corner of the world we are in, or what ISP we use.. should check with our ISPs..

For me, that was a slap in the face really..

Just PGI "working as intended" I guess..

It was malware, so they were entirely right. It just didn't seem to show up in my other games as they respond much differently to intermittent lag spikes like that, and apparently the ping updater in MWO is too slow to catch the spikes being recorded at all.

"Total security" my ********, malwarebyes did half your job for you Kaspersky.

ive always used 'dips' in place of 'spikes' to indicate negative direction. years of staring at oscilloscopes have conditioned me to avoid imprecise language.

so does that mean that to spike a football, one needs to throw it up into the air, rather than down, into the turf? Does that mean a set up in volleyball should really be called a spike?

I'm so confused!?!?!?!?!?!

In that one video example there was a video disabled futurama episode playing in the background at some ridiculously low CPU percentage. I have not recorded the near 100 other games I have run in test attempting to get rid of this spiking effect.

I should have mentioned. The futurama is not causing it.

I believe that the video is not causing it. Or at least not the only/major cause.

But one side note: Do you know why the CPU work is so ridiculously low to decode giant resolution videos with >=30 fps in real time? Is it magic? Is the display doing the gigantic work?
No.
The GPU does it. Fancy that.
So if you field "ridiculously low CPU percentage" for a graphics-heavy task as an argument for NOT taxing the GPU, it only shows that you do not really know what you are talking about.

Yeah because an audio track eally chews the graphics card. The CPU usage is all it does, so that was all that was relevant.

Thanks for stopping by to bank shot that casual insult.

words are often dependent on context. the whole stalactite thing all over again. spike has a different meaning in geometry, sports, data analysis, etc. darmok and jalad at tanagra.

i fail to see how a simple semantics thing can lead to so much confusion.

Just having a bit of fun mate :)

Nothing mean or derisive meant by it, it just set off my fastidiousness meter and ended with some laughs. Thank you though I needed laughs at that stage, maybe it is what shook loose the idea that the problem could be malware, so you totally saved the day! ;)

Because it does wonders for demonstrating why English is such a confusing language and is thus fun to poke at all the ways it can be misunderstood.
