I've been doing some experiments with LRMs in the training grounds for a project of mine, and I'd like to share the results if only to document what I've done.
A TL/DR summary: LRMs deliver roughly 50% of their rated damage to the CT. Using the Artemis versions can raise it to around 60%. Range matters: moving from 190m to 800m can lose you 10% of the LRMs rated damage. Clan and IS LRMs are about identical in performance at both ranges (but of course clan LRMs are lighter and take less slots).

Here's the setup of the experiment:
Map: Tourmaline desert training grounds
Target: AS7-D near spawn
Mechs used all have no missile spread quirks nor missle spread skills. Here are the mechs used:
IS LRMs: GRF-2N
IS ALRMs: JM6-A
Clan LRMs: SHC-A
Clan ALRMs: HMN-P
Two sets of data for each LRM type was collected: one at 190m, and the other at 800m. I didn't repeat most of the experiments due to lack of time, but on the few I did repeat the variation was just 1-2 shots, so the results should be around the ballpark of what actually happens.

In summary: LRMs only deliver 50% of their rated damage to the CT at 190m (60% with artemis). This drops to around 40% at 800m range (50% with Artemis). Clan and IS LRMs are similar in performance (but of course Clans are lower in tonnage and slots).

Nice of you to post this.. Good to have some factual data accompanied by pics..
Although, it's kinda public knowledge LRMs spread damage and not a whole lot of it goes to the CT.. but it's good to have numbers as to just how much of it..
I hope you do the same for ATMs, SRMs and MRMs?

Also try artemis + TAG for even less spread.

Since you mention this twice and reading between the lines I sense that you think clans are thus better and it's unbalanced, but you forget the stream fire of clan LRMS which makes them lose more missiles to AMS than IS. Trainingground data does not equal actual combat data.

Try on trenchbucket with spreadquark+art+tag+spread skill, its seems almost full CT on even some heavies.

Yeah nice data accumulation in any case.
Though if you are trying to say LRMs need a buff because they only do half advertised damage to CT, the same could be said for many other weapons due to spread/burn times, and accuracy.

Sadly training grounds hardly give you any sort of relevant data. When a mech you shoot moves it changes the LRM trajectory at its final stage, they start to "chase" the mech, thus % of them going into arms and legs increases greatly.

I understand what you're saying but it gives you a visualisation of the lrm flight spread, not the usage spread. Now we need a visualisation with the 5% less spread and see if it's as useless and dumb as i think.

The thing to note here is this is on a stationary target- and I'm guessing you fired face-on at the target.
Do some shots from the side- angle of attack really does matter for LRM, and movement significantly increases damage scattering. Ideally, find someone willing to 1v1 you for a bit and you'll get a more complete picture.
