Just a quick thought: PPC Capacitor would make this weapon (and all isPPCs) more interesting. The equipment can add a charge-up mechanism to the PPCs it's attached to.

I kind of want to make a Highlander with 1Gauss+3LPPCs like the old days.

And yeah, ghost heat is a stupid system. Just mount 3 I guess and make sure you don't mix them with other ppcs, the ghost heat limit drops to 2 if you fire at the same time. High time they changed it, it's nonsense.
How would you go about limiting the power of stacking lots of identical long range energy weapons (which is the most powerful thing to do, if you were allowed to do it without penalty) without 1) ruining those weapons when used in smaller numbers and/or 2) preventing larger mechs from being able to actually make use of their weapon tonnage (which is the only point in larger mechs)
I honestly dont see a much better system. Im sure there is one, but ghost heat on the whole does what it sets out to do. The only issue with it is its applied in places where it should not be (RACs being the best example), and thats not a problem with the system, just the values applied to certain weapons.

Light PPCs do run incredibly cool though. With 20 DHS you can literally stand on Caustic and fire 3 of them nonstop, and your heat will never hit 30%. With 4 of them, you can fire 2 then 2 nonstop, and produce the same result.

You can do that with standard PPCs, which run even colder for the damage. In either case, you aren't putting that much damage out, though.
