What about a slight variation on the player controlled VIP.

Make it a 'Command Lance'.
When the mode is created, the mechs in one random lance get marked as commanders. This prevents possible shifting of players in the lance to certain mechs.

Same approach.
The command lance needs to get to the extraction zone.
The more mechs from the command lance that can get there, the higher the bonus for the defending team.
Match ends when the last command mech still alive is in the extraction zone or all of the command mechs are destroyed.
The attacking team gets a bonus for each command mech destroyed and will win the game if they kill them all.


That sounds similar to breakthrough.

The only difference is in breakthrough both teams are trying to get through the other team to extract and the first team to extract X mechs wins.

And you could do variations of breakthrough where you might have to capture an info beacon or something before you can attempt to breakthrough to extraction.

When someone doesn't want to be the VIP and is picked to be the VIP and they suicide for a quick loss you'd just have an even more broken game mode.

You can adjust rewards on the VIP though, not just the group.

A VIP that actually tries to survive should be rewarded. A VIP that's too dumb and dies early should be penalized.

A good option would be a PGI employee assigned full time to drive the VIP mech. That'd gave us a bearable amount of Escort games per day and also gave PGI a lot of insights on how to improve the horrible game mode :).
I'm sure a single complaint from their own employee out-weights 1000 customer complaints...

the best is ,PGI wait for aPeople with experience and skill to work with the Cryengine ,Pathdesign and AI scripting , or give a Question to HBS for Help, in the moment PGI has nothing for that , not guys for mapmaking ,AI scripting, Gamedesign ...search 4 Years for Guys for that ,and not finding or the guys fast going to other Companys after first Steps by PGI

Better than a Tier10 VIP potato at this point. At least if the VIP is human, that player stands to lose/gain more than everyone else.
