In regards to heat issue, I simply reduced the number of weapons until I got the mech elited/mastered in the old skill tree--which can be applied here. And my performance wasn't terrible due to that.

Filling out 91 skill points is far better experience IMO when you are piloting that one variant you enjoy. Now the newbies can worry less about mechbays since rule of 3 is gone.

I've leveled up mechs in both systems, and I feel far less motivated to skill up new mechs in the current system than I did in the old, and I'm so burned out on the mech I've been leveling by the time I finally hit 91 that I don't even want to play it anymore. MWO has gone nowhere in terms of new player experience or leveling grind.

Sick of being murdered due to the MatchMaker placing them with bad teams...

I am sorry to be that guy, but according to your stats, you are the potato. Season 11, your avg. matchscore was 181, followed by 209 in season 12, to 199 in the current season 13. Your KDR and W/L ratio are consistently sub 0.8, respectively. You die more often and lose more often than you win. This has been the case for months, and isn't a single occurence. I even recall matches with you were you weren't doing so hot, either. You communicate, and try to rally people, which is great, but you subscribe to the Timid Warrior: Online school of player behaviour, if I recall those matches correctly. I'd suggest trying some of those meta builds, and being more aggressive. And if you don't like Goose/Pepsi, there is enough Laser Vomit. And if you don't like that either, there are enough SRMs boats, ballistic boats and other builds for various mechs.

That being established, I actually made an experiment of sorts, to compare performance of various builds and playstyles with some measure of a sample size and controlled variable: myself as the pilot. Season 10, I played mixed bags and joke builds. My average match score was 266, my KDR and W/L ratio 1.3, each. Season 11, I played with meta builds, exclusively, and my average score rose to 314, my KDR and W/L ratio both kicked up to 1.8 and 1.7 respectively. Season 12, I used a mix of either category and leveled some awful mechs, with avg. MS dropping to 290 and KDR and W/L ratio dropping to 1.3 and 1.5 respectively. And now, in season 13, I played only awful/weak mechs, often messing with loadouts to compenmsate for their weaknesses, and leveling them up - avg. MS: 294, KDR is 0.7 and W/L ratio is 0.96.

You can say whatever you want about meta builds, but there's reasons why they work. They make the most use of tonnage, available weapon options and are formulaic in their approach. LRM boats, bracket builds and mixed bags of non-synergistic weapons simply do not perform as well as those meta builds do. And the difference in skill tree state directly affects all results. Season 13 was almost all unleveled mechs for me, often painfully lackin g in core aspects. And it really shows. Also, 13 is cursed.

I occasionally take an old mech out and forget that it hasnt been skilled up. Life goes on, it doesnt cripple my abilities or experience.

How 'bout y'all just stay the heck outta my T5 games?!

I've used points in just one mech, and until the new tech drops (and most likely, after another quirk pass) I ain't bothered enough to kit out my regularly driven chassis. Do you think having that extra 5% heat reduction would make them any less "potatoes", or is someone just feeling hurt enough they wanted to head to the forum to vent after a minor losing streak?

I play MWO on an old laptop, with a cheap two-button mouse and no com - sure enough I can still keep up and communicate even in my most trolling builds. You are going to have teammates that aren't any good and some that are just having a bad day - it happens to the best of us. Get over yourself and get back into the game.

I have never used the skill tree and I like stock or near stock loadout mechs. I have still fun.

I do not have any problems playing unskilled mechs. Heck i usually run it a time or two unskilled to make sure I like it and want to invest skill points in it. Grasshopper 5h unskilled 3 kills and a 700 damage. Some others i took oit first drop after building them did similar things in that i can not recall.

Glad you are having fun, mate. You are still one of the potatos that make other players mad about their team - at least, according to your stats. Willfully gimping yourself isn't much of an achievement, to be blunt. Your fun comes at the expense of others. Of course, your own fun isn't to be neglected, but deliberately running around with less armor, less ammo, less heat capacity and such isn't helping your team and only forces others to carry you harder.

No offense intended. You know you aren't doing too hot, eh?

It hasn't really changed. Before the skill tree it was the same thing. Matchmaker hasn't changed much either.

Frankly, I think PGI should REQUIRE A FUNCTIONING MICROPHONE AND ACTIVE WILLINGNESS TO COMMUNICATE before allowing people to wade into the fight. It sure would fix a lot of problems real fast. Posted Image

I was with your post up to this point.

I have issues verbalizing. I CANNOT effectively use a microphone.
I am more than capable of playing well, and even working with my team (or at least as much of teamwork as PuGlandia is capable of)

But to require a microphone would be to tell me I should not be part of the community.

You DO realize that the potato is (quite literally) one of the greatest foods in existence?

Keeps you alive better than just about anything else, only vitamins it is missing are provided by dairy products.

Potato is really a lousy insult.

I usually use a bit of GXP to get a new mech started. Make a slow mech less slow, an ammo limited mech more stocked, a laser mech shorter burn time and so on. Then level up from there.

Of course MM expects you to carry since you are T1. Even with zero skilled mechs it is not that hard to do well, though. Unless the mech itself is garbage.

I ran around with a gauss chicken and got 3 kills.
