Been slowly creeping up since ST release, when you can reduce the negative effects of laser spam of duration, heat, and all the other stuff that balance it out plus you could stack it on whatever mechs that have laser duration quirks or what's left.

But do I know I'm just pissant to you. Posted Image

Lol Khobai hasn't really been playing since the ST so he doesn't know. He is just pretending to know.

Oh I don't really know, I rarely drop against people on the forums when I be doing my daily grinding.

If you have to chargeup before you can fire you can easily miss that window of opportunity.

Yeah but tell that to the gauss macros, and people who are used to and who can poptart with immense skill, only ever revealing some 5% of their body for half a second in the process.

Skill can overcome it like that in many ways, but it definitely stops a sniper twitchfiring on a light that pops around a corner unexpectedly, which I am OK with personally, of course gauss would be better with no charge, but it is almost "too easy" if you know what I mean, with that velocity and range and projectile size etc.

but snipers should be able to twitchfire on lights that pop out of cover. thats the whole point of a sniper weapon. its why the light gauss is a fail weapon too, because its better range and velocity are largely rendered meaningless by its chargeup time.

Gauss just shouldnt be effective at doing that at shorter ranges, hence the need for a minimum range damage dropoff

gauss on its own was NEVER a problem until it started getting combined with PPCs.

Guys, laser vomit is always going to be one of the popular choices, we are in a vomit based topic here, if people could vomit fire 6 gauss they would too, but there are other restrictions in place.

Weapons that synergise will always get stacked up as much as they can be, that is the WHOLE POINT of restrictions, whether they be weight/slots/ghost heat or whatever.

Look at the leaderboards. If the name doesn't show up, they have played less than 10 matches in that month.

Lol, what's next? 2 cERPPCs + 3 cUAC5s, which is basically the same? 4 UAC5s + 1 PPC? Laser vomit? AC20 + SRMs?

Yeah its a joke, instead of balancing properly they just seek to bandaid away the loadouts that the underhive complains about.

To me the point of a "sniper" weapon, particularly here in MWO, is the ability to shoot quickly, relocate (if necessary), and rinse and repeat that process, and/or being able to deal your damage at great range, while only ever receiving minimal damage in return, unless it is another "sniper" shooting at you, where it turns into a sniper duel or something of the like.

The instant fire ideal doesn't come into for anything other than being able to fire and relocate at maximum speed, but again that can be overcome with skill/experience, in precharging before revealing etc.

For these reasons, and because the ACs needs to compare, I am fine with the charge mechanic anyway. If it were removed, I would personally be using gauss all the time again because its stats are so amazing, even against the potential 40 damage of a UAC20 double burst, you can do it faster at greater ranges and be assured that the damage will all go where you placed it.

Again, that is just me/my thoughts though.

Thats why you equip some close range weapons to get around min range?

Except the heavier and bulkier IS weapons don't allow much back up weapons in the first place, compared to Clan ones.

Those are much more tolerable compared with 2xGauss + CERPPCs.

LOLOL no it won't. Not enough to counter the increased damage output/dps

DPS means little when they are not concentrated. Also, the PPFLD mech will now have to stare longer to finish off the alpha which means it is more vulnerable to counter fire. Think from both sides, mate.

Oh, that was unexpected... I already found laser vomit or erll spam more reliable than gppc after skill tree and nerfs to kdk3 and ngr. No need to kill a non-dominating combo. Whatever. Guess it helps is a bit in terms of ppfld balance, but clan vomit will reign supreme, with or without a gauss.

Almost anything is, that combo when wielded well allows the target almost no room for response, and no room for spreading damage at all (with the exception of clan ppc splash, which is really just a bonus). Add to those inherent massive advantages a bigger range than most weapons, and multiple team members working in tandem with the same weapons, and yeah, PPFLD nightmares.

Not when you're within their optimal range due to much higher dps. And sniper mechs will just switch to Gauss ERLL/pure ERLL builds.

Lol, nah sorry, you can justify it all you want, the proof is in the pudding. When I look at my stats, my ppc/dakka and laser vomit mechs meet or exceed the stats of my PPC/Gauss mechs. All this does is kill variety. And also takes away any reason for buying the Nightstar. Will refund if they don't adjust this by October. (Hate to be that guy, but seriously... finally announce an IS mech that might run that loadout reasonably well and then ghost heat that loadout? That is spesh.)

You can also do Gauss + lasers for much larger alphas. Even if they aren't PPFLD... its a lot of damage to through around.
