I'll try swapping my XL Mediums to LFE, see if it impacts overall performance much.

Otherwise, it's most STD to LFE.

In general, lights will stay XL as will some mediums, most heavies (not necessarily the lighter heavies, but we'll see) and all assaults will swap over to LFE's (some assaults might stay standard if I decide to actually use heavy gauss, but it's pretty bad atm and there is never a reason to use the LBX 20)....

I've got 13 mechs I want to add and have been saving for this day for a while....

I'm still going to preferentially run XLs. XLs are lighter than LFEs, which means more weight for weapons. XL versus LFE is the same calculation as XL versus Standard. Twist harder, git gud, and you won't die early to side torso losses.

The only exception I'm considering is for my HBK-4G. I'll either put an LFE in with an AC20 (which won't fit alongside an XL), or it's going to continue to gather dust. Probably the latter, if we're honest. Not taking an XL just feels like leaving too much tonnage on the table.

Most of my builds are energy or energy/missile so they were STD, or XL for more speed and a few extra HS. But in FP were generally STD. Med/Heavies will go LFE, a couple of lites may go LFE instead of XL, energy assaults are the ones that were either XL or STD so they will be LFE.

Those who have not really played Clan mechs much, or survive the loss of a ST, they will be hurting, still alive but hurting instead of dead, or slow as a snail...

The sad thing is that to even come close to being in parity with the Clans, ballistic type mechs almost require the fragile XL for both weight savings and halfway decent speed.

Edit The LFE will not stop potatoes from being potatoes though

My Arrow will be getting an LFE for sure, 2 snubs and 6 heavy machine guns, it was the first thing I tested on the PTS and it was beautiful. I cant remember if I had jj's on it but due to IS tech being a bit on the hefty side I may have left the jj's out.

Pretty much all of my builds with an XL engine 1) need that tonnage and 2) some of them have most of the important weaponry on 1 side and wouldn't really benefit all that much from being able to lose 1 side.

I probably will try to convert a few XL builds to LFE, but mostly what it will do is allow more builds without having to take a particularly slow STD engine or a fragile XL engine on a mech that isn't well suited for XL engines.

Swapping to a LFE shouldn't require any weapon changes for that build. LFE only takes 2 crits per side torso, the AC20 will sit snugly atop your LFE.

Assuming your current build is something like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...188519acaf99f78

You should be able to yank the AC20, swap the 275 std over to a 310 LFE, cram 1 more heat sink into the engine, and drop the AC20 right back in with a ton and 2 crits left over... Maybe even swap the AC20 out for a UAC20? Or throw in a RL15? AMS & half-ton of ammo? Maybe a ML or ERML in the CT? Or screw all of that and just toss in an extra ton of AC20 ammo?

Oops, no, the 310 LFE is 1 ton heavier... But you end up with more crits free for it, maybe light ferro armor and an AC upgrade to ultra or extra doodad? I dunno. And if you go for the more typical 300 LFE all the struck out text should still apply.

Just skip the AC20 altogether and run LPL instead.

MISERY

You're like a BLG or a STK 4N with less range.

perfect for brawling.

Switch those two LL to ERLL and you can poke while you setup for 3LPL laser vomit.

Some of my STD engines will be upped to LFE for a little more speed.

Not many if any of my XL builds will be changing to fit an LFE unless I can use it easily.

XL builds will stay XL. Most Std builds will be swapping to LFE. Some Std builds will stay as is because of lack of slots to swap to LFE.

This (I believe, time will tell)

Everyone on the same wave link. If its standard go to LFusion. If its XL and you don't want to change the fit it stays. If the weapons dont fit because of crit space it stays XL.
So really all heavys and Assults will be changing. LRM BOATS, BALLISTIC BUILDS and some lazors builds will stay XL cause they need the tonage to stay competitive.
All I can say is, I can play assults now with the LFussion Engines.

Yeah but I wonder how many people who are thinking this way actually spent any time at all over on the PTS trying out different builds. I spent about 30 hours there just screwing around with my builds using the virtually unlimited C-bills available there to test out tons of things I would never be able to test out on the live server due to the potential cost of it being a failed build. What I found was that virtually all my IS mechs had builds that could be improved upon through some combination of LFE and/or the new tech. I don't think this realization has quite hit most people yet because they haven't actually been exposed to it yet.

That's because, as a Clam Apologist, you like stretching the truth

If a Spheroid mech wants competitive speed AND firepower compared to a Clam mech, it needs an XL. It might not even reach parity, because weapons are also heavier/larger, as well as less/no FF savings

LFE, combined with quirks, will help
If quirks get removed because of the LFE, suddenly the Sphere is gimped again

I will for the most part leave XL engines in lights that needs the speed/ tonnage. Except tough lights like Wolfhounds, Urbanmechs which have good hitboxes and/ or quite a bit of base quirks for survivability (structure, armor) etc

Might leave Xl engines in some lower tonnage mediums aswell.

I will switch out STD enignes from heavies and assaults which dont need STD for the biggest guns or which cannot zombie.
Also LFE arent something miracelous. Sure you can lose one side torso, but still losing both you will still die. Also losing one gives a significant handicap.

Same as everyone else, anything XL will stay that way.
Most everything with std will be moved to LFE unless the slotting forces certain weapons out to the arms.

Torso mounted AC20 is getting a big buff with LFE, as well as any mech that runs 2UAC5 in one torso. So any heavy and above with torso ballistic mounts benefit from that. Marauders, Cataphracts, Warhammers, Roughnecks, Mauler, Cyclops etc...Oh, and hunchbacks!

I see some medium brawlers actually switching from XL to LFE also, like Griffin-2N for example.

Did they remove the nonsensical site torso loss penalties or is it still strictly worse than Clan XL for no reason?

Ew.

The fact that PGI still designs IS tech to be strictly worse than clan for no good reason is a much bigger issue than the goosepeep heatlinkage everyone is raging about, talk about misdirected energy.

I was hoping this nonsense would change with Chris, sad.

My Battlemaster-2C will switch to LFE. XL is just so damn easy to pop, post engine desync.

it still may, if the LFE penalty is too harsh than it could always be reduced,

There is no "if" here, the LFE is strictly worse than clan xl and there is no reason for that, nothing should be strictly worse than something else in a PvP game, it's bad design.
